Help

Post by propagandhi420 »

At around 120 km/hr i can feel a vibration through the car... it comes in pulses.like a second apart.. i had a mechanic look at it real quick for me and he said everthing seems tight.. guy at the tire place said he didnt think the wheels need to be balanced.... i'm really not sure wha it could be... also i got 2 1/4 inch exhaust with hi flow cat.. and at higher speeds it sounds like the exhaust is pulsating... not just a flat sound.almost like an annoying echo.. i dont think its got to do with my first problem but it might... both are very annoying and i would appreciate any help.... thanks

Is your idle hunting? (Going up and down) When you feel this vibration? Do you feel the vibration when in motion only or when your at a stop as well? Does it do it more when the car is cold or when fully warmed up? Or does that even seem to matter?

i havnt noticed the idle moving to much at a stop... it moves when i turn my steering wheel or hit the brake... but as for hunting... if it is, its gotta be so little i dont even notice... the pulsating vibration i'm getting is only at high speeds... kinda feels like the wheels need balanced... but that wouldnt just come in pulses...it makes no difference when the car is warm or cold... i really have no idea what it could be... and the noise commnig from the exhaust is driving me nuts.. its like a constant pulse at higher speeds... it starts doing this at like 80.... the car doesnt start vibrating until around 120....

the pulsating vibration i'm getting is only at high speeds... kinda feels like the wheels need balanced... but that wouldnt just come in pulses.
What I think is going on is a wheel slightly out of balance.. probably not even really that noticeable through the steering wheel.. but.. I also think you have a worn wheel bearing on the wheel thats out of balance.. the combination of the two is what makes it seem like its pulsing. Jack the car up and see if you can move the wheel(s) up and down at all.

Also.. if it is a wheel out of balance.. the vibration will be within a certain speed range.. like 60-70 mph or 70-80 mph. Above or below the speed range.. the ride will be smooth.

At least this will give you something to check.
