The wiring is not compatible - as you have already found out. You need to get the wiring diagram for both 96 OBD2 B6DE (which is not the same as the online manual 95 OBD1 B6DE) and the 91 BP harness. You need to cut those wires in the dash harness and resplice them according to the BP hraness. You will also have to deal with another problem - the speedometer (sensor) is mechanical for 91 BP and electrical for the 96 B6 - so you may have to replace the instrument cluster or find a electrical sensor that will work with 91 BP. If you dont want to deal with all this wiring - then the best bet will be to swap the the instrument cluster and the dash harness from a 92-93 RS - you will still run into some problems if you have elctrical actuated heater controls because the as far as i know the 92-93 models came with mechanically activated heater controls.

protge cluster may not fit in the mx-3 - especially a 96 mx-3. If you want wiring diagrams you can try http://alldatadiy.com - they are not free though - you have to pay for each car model - but you get discounts for every additional cars i think.
