I've been tinkering with the idea of "fixing up" my carbon fiber tail lamps. I basically want to pop off the plexiglass, pop out/dremel out the red and clear lenses, and fit in some round sealed LED taillights, similar to the 4" ones used on semi trucks but smaller.
I've got two questions for the forum:
1. Figured if I just cut off the ends of the current tail light assemblies, and routed the two wires from there on to the new tail lamp, that should work. Do I need to pay any special attention to the wattage or amperage, or should any designated tail lamp work in this circumstance?
2. Has anyone ever seen a small LED lamp that would work for this situation? I'm mainly finding the 4" guys for semi's and I don't think smaller "clearance" lamps would fit the bill for brightness nor two stage dim/bright for tail/stop.... I'm kind of eyeballing some LED's for motorcycles I've been finding on the net in a few spots...

I google searched for "truck LED tail lights" and found the following
2" LED tail lights
http://www.mrtaillight.com/product_info ... cts_id=347
Custom motorcycle LED applications (some may suit your build)
http://www.taillightking.com/motorcycle.htm
old school muscle car replacement LED taillights (may give you some ideas, but are super expensive)
http://www.rodworx.com/products.php?scatid=16
Heavy Duty truck LED taillights (check out the downloadable catalogue at the bottow. May present some mounting solutions for your design.)
http://www.allightech.com/TRUCK%20LIGHT.htm
That should get you started at least.
