KL Trans on BP?

Post by Nd4SpdSe »

From ProbeTalk:
The BPT can use the Probe GT (KLZE) transmission! You have to use the axles from...crap...I think it's like, a 1994 Protege or something like that....there's a write-up somewhere....
As for the transmissions, let me give you a little rundown. The transmissions, like the engines, come in both B and K series. The K series transmissions come on...well...the K engines, Kl03, KL08, KLZE, etc. The B-series comes on the B blocks; B6, BP, BPT. The KLZE transmission WILL BOLT UP to any B series engine, with the use of different halfshafts, and can withstand much more horsepower and torque; BP swappers also praise the K transmissions as having far better gearing.
That's new to me...

We cannot say that for certainty Perry. We've never tried it.

Now we can say for certain...

It will not fit.

The 4-cyl G-series Transmission is outlined in RED and is overlayed on a v-6 G-series transmission, outlined in BLUE.

You can see:

~The starters are in different places...

~The bolts patterns are COMPLETELY Different...

Ant thats enough proof to say they will not "bolt up" to a different block than what they were designed for.

LOL, Perry. I would have never thought of checking it that way, but it is definitive.

...oddly enough...

As NONE of the bolt holes match...It'd be even easier to make an adapter plate...Assuming the Input-shaft has atleast .5" to spair inside the clutch..

0.5" stainless steel, 2 drills and taps and 2 big pieces of carboard...

Mind ... with that you'd have to dremel out metal on the Tranny to clear the head's of the engine side bolts..

Oh and the starter probably wouldn't work right = custom flywheel... or starter mount...

Actually there is a machine shop up in Laval that have made a replacement tranny plate for the B block for a couple of guys back when Dave was still racing his MX-3 when created a shortage of G15M-R in the MTL region but V-6 G25M-R were a dime a dozen at the time. The Flywheel is OK and the V-6 starter mounts to the tranny so it is not a big deal. I have not kept in touch with the local MX-3 since about 2000-2001.
