I'm not sure if this applies to 95 but on my 92 gs there is a lock thing. When you press the brake you can hear it activate. There should be a little plastic or rubber piece around the base of the shifter that you can remove, or a little hole, where you can access a manual override.

well the weather is getting good now and i want to get this thing running again but I still cant get it into gear. When I press on the brake pedal there is no clicking sound to release the shifter. I checked that little hole but cant really see what its supposed to do. I disconnected the linkage from the tranny so its not the tranny yet. But still cant get it to move. I've ckecked all the fuses and there fine. Any help would be great. Im located in port hope if any one lives near by that could help.

EDIT: Well just got back in and I cant get the console apart without moving the shifter. LOL. Kinda ironic eh?

just put a long screwdriver through the manual override hole until you feel it pushing against a spring - push it in completely and you can shift gears.

ok. well i got the console apart, first i had to armstrong the shifter out of park. so with that done i was able to take a good look at what is happening, so now with the linkage diconnected i can shift no problem, how ever with it hooked up i can only barely get reverse, should i just keep playing with it or does anybody know why the transmission wont go into gear.

well i had to put a 21mm socket on the end of the linkage, and got that part into the right spot to start the car, but it was really stiff. Going to put the lube to it for a day or two and try to free it up. Hope its not the tranny itself.

ok got the transmission shifting nice and free now :D , and the shifter :D
but not the shifter cable, i dont know if ive broken it cuz inside the car the cable moves freely but out at the transmission end the cable doesnt move at all. If this is broken how tough of a driveway fix is this.

Does anyone know a good spot to get a cable, mazda wants $120.91, but DOMS said 35 bucks i just gotta pull it.
