and is there ANYWAY to identify that it is a G25 or a F25

The bell housing shape is the way I can tell just from looking at it from the top. The casing around the diff is slightly diff as well. Sometimes the G and F series will have a sticker on the bottom side. They will either start the lettering with a "G" or "F" followed by some other lettering.
You need to modify the halfshaft for the G series trans to work with the B6 engine. It requires re-drilling holes to fit on the back of the block. You need the clutch /flywheel, slave cyl for the G trans as well as the axles. You may also need the front mount bracket and top trans bracket depending on if the trans comes with it or not.
