Hey all,
I was recently driving my GS on a country cruise. I pulled out onto a highway and when shifting up from second the tranny slipped, the engine revved up, and then it went back in second gear. Now it won't shift past second. It was shifting fine all day before this so I seriously doubt it's more serious than an electrical part. I see in the manual that diagnosis is a little nebulous for this problem and was wondering if there's a common issue that I might be having or any other helpful advice. Thanx a bunch.
ATX won't shift out of 2nd, was shifting fine
First - check fluid level and condition.
Under the hood - in the diagnostics box jump pins GND & TAT - if there are any fault codes stored in the transmission computer the "Hold" light in the dash will flash to indicate the code. Most electrical faults will throw a code.
Also try reseting the computer - disconnect negative battery cable and press brake pedal for 20 seconds.
Usually the common issue is a bad transmission! Especially if you dont have a transmission cooler installed.
If nothing helps - then its time for replacing the tranny.
