Suspension and brake upgrades.

Post by kenken »

hello to everyone. i am having a hard time finding parts for my mx3 v6.
may i know whether astina(eunos100) sport springs are compatible?
anyone ever tried fitting FD3s or FC3s 4 pot calipers and rotor to the mx3?
can Galant VR4/Lancer Evo1,2&3 2 pot calipers and rotor fit?

Thanks.

Doubt it, you should be the first :P Break new ground for the Mx3 community!

In seriousness, there are a fair amount of parts available for our cars, but you have to search. Coilover kits made for Mx6s/Probes have been retrofitted to our cars, I know. Other than that, you could do custom rate springs from Ground Control and Koni adjustable shocks for a fully adjustable setup. Our brakes are really not that bad either. You'd be good with some slotted rotors and HiPerf pads like Stillin or KVR carbon pads.

Good luck!
KLZE/KL31 ecu/Pacesetter headers/track pipe cat delete/2.5 inch custom exhaust out to fart pipe/warm air intake for now :(/Fidanza 9lbs flywheel/Stage 2 kevlar road racing clutch which still slips/stock wheels/BFG KDW-2 tires. Looks bone stock ;)

There are those who claim to be street racers, and then there are those who claim the streets for themselves. I am not a street racer. I am a StreetSweeper.

Yes the 1 gen (BG/CA) Lantis/ Astina suspension is compatible.

The FC turbo/ FD calipers have been adapted to the 323 chassis cars there was a company that made a kit based on these calipers back in the mid/late 90's. Unfortunately this company is not longer in business. I have been playing with Ford Mustang 4 pot calipers for my Ford ZX2. I should have the adaptor brackets from Emachineshop.com waiting for me when I get back home form vacation next week.

No parts in Malaysia~!

Post by kenken »

haha..yaya..i know there's plenty of new and used parts in the united states. but sad to say,in malaysia i can hardly see any mx-3s(or parts) around. since i've never been out of my country before, i've only seen less than 10 mx3s in my life.

so usually whats the most popular mods that u guys do to your brakes?
thanks for the information given. its really appreciated.

the most popular brake mods are upgraded rotors (brembo blanks or getitng xdrilled and slotted or some variation) i recently found out that a newer year protege rotors fit ours they are supposedly vented better and 2mm thicker

also you can get SS braided lines for the brakes.

yoda are you reffereing to Rod Millen Motorsports? I've been emailing them about the RX-7 brake upgrade but aparently no one there now knows how they did it. or have any of the schematics.

why did you chose the mustang calipers? how much did the adaptor plate cost you and will you be selling them to others if they work out cause i really would like to upgrade my brakes to go along with the bp and awd swap i'm doing

No it is not RMM as I mentioned the companies I was thinking of are one longer in business and RMM is very much still in business. Now that you mention it I had a friend and fellow Mazda tuner for up here in Canada that worked for Rod many years ago that mentioned something about this mod. I haven't seen him in years unless you count seeing him on cable TV from time to time. I was actually thinking of a shop down in So. FL and a guy North of Toronto that specialized in 323. This also goes back to before the internet and email were a house hold item and and companies had websites. The problem with the Sumitomo 4 pot caliper is that they require a thick spacer and a wheel with a lot of positive offset to clear the wheel. the RX7 has a rotor with more offset than a FWD car and uses a wheel with back space more common to a FWD car than a RWD.

The reason for playing with the Mustang 4 pot caliper is that the price was right. They were a freebie and the there is a lot of demand for the Sumitomo RX7 calipers by Toyota, old Volvo, kit car and off road vehicles builders these days. I've run into to problems with this caliper as well. I have the same back space problem requiring a thick spacer and i need to find a 11.2"+ rotor otherwise I just took a step backward and have less pad sweep that the stock pads and calipers. The 2 pot rear caliper looks to be a lot easier if and when I decide to do the rear brake conversion just that the ZX has the big 9" rear drums like the '90-91 323 that can stop a truck so braking isn't and issue.

yoda are you planning on using mustang rears also? wasn't sure from your post.... it might not be hard to get rotors i recall seeing that some people had blank brembos they offered to drill the proper mounting holes on for each car. Please keep us informed cause i will hopefully be upgrading sometime in the next year
