Transmission help needed!

Post by Napalm7629 »

I am new to mx-3.com and also new to the mx-3. I was given a 94 mx-3 1.6L DOHC from my sister because its transmission has gone out (wont shift properly and you cant go over 25mph). It is an automatic and it was just a reason for me to convert it to a manual. If anyone could, I need a list of possible donor vehicles with similar transmissions. I have been able to find 5-speeds for the V6 although that doesnt help me much considering I have a 4 cyl. If you could let me know, years, makes, and models of vehicles with the transmission i could use, that would be great! thanks!

thanks, but i thought that some years of the mazda 323, and the ford probe had the same transmission. I am having a hard time finding transmissions from an mx-3 at the junk yard, and there are plenty of probes and mazda 323 and 626. If anyone has any information, that would be great!

I don't know about the 626/Probe/Mx-6 4cyl trannies being compatible. I dont know much about them, but are a totally different type of motor, no matter the generation, so I assume they use a totally different trans.

If you had a V6 Mx-3, the V6 626/Probe/Mx-6 would be (specifically the manual transmissions), reason why we can easilly swap out the motor and/or the trans. Your probably mixing up the 2.

the only trans that are straight bolt up are 4 cyl MX-3 transmissions or 323 transmissions, you can swap in the BP tranny out of a protege but theres a bit more work involved ans is not a straight bolt up

Yes early 90's 323 have the same series transmissions... The tranny itself should bolt up to the engine you have but you still might have to look for the 3 pedal assemply out of an mx3 because I dont know if they are the same.
95 RS so far just a paintjob, rims suspension next then turbo...
Image I have turbo dreams and detanation nightmares
