Gear Oil Best Suited For V6 Tranny

Post by kp2t »

Just wondering what is best suited for my tranny....

It was suggested that I use Castrol Syntec 75W90 or ATF 3, Auto Tranny fluid in a manual gearbox for the smoother shifting in the winter...

I have Delco 80W90 since I did my clutch in Nov 2005, but when I changed my axle i took the half shaft out I noticed it was a bit bubbly back at the beggining of Decemeber this year.

What are your suggestions??

Royal Purple Gear oil or Redline Gear Oil (both synthetic) - You could also look in your owners manual or in the online shop manual for more specifications. Avoid Penzoil Synchromesh.. its a crappy Paraffin based gear oil.. yup.. same stuff used to make wax.

I've used both Penzoil synchromesh and royal purple and I like the penzoil better.

Redline works well, but pricey. $20 a bottle, and takes almost 4, or was it 5, but enough...

3 bottles (1qt/each) for the tranny (on the I4), and they are only $8 a bottle.
The engine was $30 for a gallon, which you only need 3/4's of.

Gotta be more than 3, maybe 3.5. I remember a partial bottle being used. I think i may of had an extra 5th in case.

Maybe $8us, but i believe they were $19.99 back a few years ago when i got it, but it was probably because it was the only place around with it. JRPonline is currently selling it for C$15/bottle

exactly what i told you krish

I have Royal Purple in my tranny. I've been told you will notice smoother shifts.I don't think sowhen i did my ze swap i used Royal Purple synthetic motor oil so I used there tranny fluid. Its called Max gear. Another good one is the GM Syncromesh...i hear that stuff is awesome. honda guys swear by it!

umm..as for Mazda aying us ATF+3 that sounds wierd because +3 is for Chrysler I think. when yout motor is cold you won't get that hard shift and 2nd gear grind with ATF. Some mazda 5spd trans require atf and its required i've heard. I used to have an escort which uses a Mazda trans I think or mayabe mazda designed trans and it was like that.

You sure they said ATF+3 or was it Mercon3. thats what Fords use and Gm uses Dexron.
