BlazianEnigma - 1993 MX-3

Post by Blazianenigma »

1993 Mazda MX-3 RS

Image

Purchase from a guy who just had it sitting with no TLC
Had 131K miles and a broken Odometer, cracked windshield, broken front left headlight.
No Parking Lights or Turn Signals...and no radio.
Bone stock.
The paint is faded as usual.
However, the car lacks the brownish fungus called Rust.

Had to do some recoperating to the poor lil thing.
Changed the Plugs and Wires.
PCV valve.
REinstalled the Cat (way too loud)...started to get the Honda noise stares.

Currently working on determining what is causing the problems with the light issues.
Upon changing fuses...now have no interior lights, no radio power and now rear defrost.
However, taking a test light I find out power goes to the above when the hazards are on.
Must be a short or fried wire somewhere in the system.

Current Goal is to get her road worthy.

I will be taking apart the dash to gain better access to the main wiring harness and see what surprises I find.

Future Mods...Well and Enigne swap is a given.
This cr doesnt have much power on the highway.
Accelleration in 1-3 gears is good, but once I reach 55 and try to pass other cars or trucks on the freeway...its at a snails pace.

I plan on reconditioning the body as the weather permits and follow through from there.

Well...took apart the dash...Daunting task...but came out pretty easy.
To my surprise...taking thetest light and touching the crap out of connectors...I've isolated the PROBLEM around the fuse block.
Well..after taking the fuse block apart...guess what I found.

The cause of the whole lighting issue.
Im in the process of decyphering what the color wires (used to be) to see what they go to.

Also the little relay at the bottom of the last pic is fried as well.

So.....the process of identifing the deceased wires is proving to be a true CSI investigation.

Other than that....since I cant drive the car anywhere...Ive started on this swap.

Getting rid of the auto seatbelts and going manual.
So I guess Ill be listing the assemblies in a few.
The driver is pretty much new, replaced by Sesi Mazda about a month ago.

It might be much easier to invest in a wiring harness from a wrecked mx3 or something - ofcourse the root of the problem must be discovered and solved before that -otherwise the new wires might meet the same fate.

A little late for an update...
Bot I managed to repair the burned out wires.
So far...the problem is 90% solved.
I now have brake lights and parking lights...however, only 1 of the parking lights work...the outer red lights around the reverse lights.
So far the weathers been cold and I never bothered to mess with them...cause they work.

But since the weather is starting to get warm...
Im planning on doing my design plan for the interior.
Already stripped the paneling off the interior...just thinking on a paint scheme.

Some one put in the stereo wrong... that s--- happend to me when a bubby installed my head unit it fried the wiring harness to the Fuse block. due to the stock wiring harness not having a Ground... The ground wire is seperate to the harness. The "dimmer" switch is where most ppl think the ground wire is, and short the system out... I have no exterior or interior lights...
my first one....

So far since the weather is playing around...I decieded to work on a few creature comforts before chopping into the trunk and rear end.

I have salvaged some Manual Seatbelts and will start the swap over once theres a nice warm day.
