anyone know much about these cars, going to look at buying one tomorow, the origional 13b was blown so a 12a was put in as a replacment. carburated.

been sitting for a year. anything i should be looking for in particular and how much do you think the car is worth?

Hey, I picked up an 83 Rx-7 in Feb. of this year. It's a limited edition model, with a carb'd 12a (60,xxx original miles). Make sure to check under the storage bins behind the seats and the rear wheel wells for rust. I paid $500 USD for mine, with a lot of surface rust, and the interior was kind of beat up, but mechanically everything works, car starts fine, and runs well.

well, we bought it,

we = me and my dad.

and we got a hell of a deal, picking it up monday.

heres what i know.

1) the car was borken into, the passenger seat and radio are gone.
2) i havent heard the egine run, but it isnt sezised, but the starter seems to be.
3)it leaks gas everwhere when you turn the key on. (leak is on the line going to the carb)
4)it has a straight through 3" exhaust, no cat, no resionator, and a muffler i can see straight through.
5)its been sitting for 1 year.
6) it was origionaly a 13b but now has a 12a in it.
7) minor rust damage on wheel wells.

Thats about it.

now u just need at least a street port,carb or tie it so all 4 barells open at the same time, racing beat header, racing beat muffler, coils, wires, plugs, decarbonize the motor-rx7club.com, fuel pump, at least a resonator, a bridge port would be nicer than street port(more for turbo). check the oil regularily as it inject oil onto the seals to keep them lubricated-basically its supposed to and will burn oil. my buddy had a 79 with a 12a all the above mentioned and it went really good right up to 9000 it buriied the tach at 8000 wouldnt go any further. but u could could still get another 20 km/h out of it from that point b4 the carb f-cked up-it was still pulling hard there. and have fun with the stock lsd and rear wheel drive. off the line ull kill everyone. i used to launch his at 5500-8000 as it had fat a-- tires. and theres no sound like it or a freer high revving motor-have fun ull enjoy it as i drove his for a month last summer. and swing her sideways,p.s rx's love doing donuts even on dry pavement. funny thing is he sold his car (rotted underbody) and got a 92mx3 rs red the opposite way of doin things as u. best shop around toronto by far is mazdees i can get the number for u but there is like a 2 month waiting list cause their booked solid.

Before you even start the car pull the motor and get it checked over or check it over...Pull out the taillights and checkout inside that space for rust or anything outa the ordinary..

Get some new seats

If the motor turns out tobe bad get a 13BT(13B-DEI-T) ... They're really not that expensive..
