1998-2002 Mazda 2.6L V6 engines
Hey Mazda enthusiasts! I am new here and just IN LOVE with Mazdas!!!
My question is... Is there a difference between the engines in 626s in 92-97 and 98-02? They look the same. What about the Millennia engine? Will the Milli engine bolt up to a 626 manual tranny? Does the Ford Probe have the same engine as the 626? I think I know the answers but just want to be sure.
Thanks a lot in advance!!!

I'm very sorry!!!
I meant the 2.5 V6, I was just very sleepy last night when I came home from work so...please forgive me.
So now my questions are...
What is the difference between the KLZE and KLDE?
If the engine in the 98-up 626s is different then the older 626s, does that mean I cant put it into my mx-3?
If the intake manifold in the Milli is better than can I just put it on a 98-up 626 engine? What else can I swap form the Milli engine to the 626 engine to make it better?
Thanks soooooooooooo much!!!!!

The KLZE is a JDM engine only.. it was not in any production car here in North America. The KLDE engines were production engines found in MX-6's, 626's and Ford Probes. The internal differences were small.. the ZE offers a higher compression ratio and more agressive cam profiles. In laymans terms.. the ZE is more powerful than the DE. But can only be sourced from japanese engine importers.. so buying one can sometimes be a crap shoot. The DE is much more common so they are usually cheaper to find. And since they have a lower compression ratio.. they are more forgiving as far as tuning if you want run a turbo. There are probably a lot of other differences... you will never find a FORD valve cover on a stock ZE either.. But you get the point.

No. I know you can get it to work. There's a guy in Rockford that did a couple MX3 swaps with the 98+ V6 engine. I told you what you need to look at. If 100% fits though. Every bolt hole on the 98+ 2.5 is the same as the MX3's 1.8L.KA3AX wrote: If the engine in the 98-up 626s is different then the older 626s, does that mean I cant put it into my mx-3?)

Try a search to find out specifics on IM's. There are the Long and short neck (straight type) IM's and then the curved neck (Millennia) IM. There you will find specifics with regards to fitment since there are restrictions/limitations/clearance issues when it comes to RHD vs LHD. Also you'll also find out the differences in the sizes in the intake runners when it comes to square vs oval type. There's also some good pics available that will clearly set them apart.KA3AX wrote:What about the millania IM, will it direct bolt to the 98-up 626 2.5? Is there anything else that I could swap from the Milli to make the 626's engine faster, stronger, better...?
Thanks a lot everyone for your help, I don't know what I would do with out you'al!!!
