Engine problem question

Off hand anyone have any ideas what would cause the oil filter to become lossened? My brother has this geo tracker and he says he needs new motor cause when he runs it all the oil comes out where the oil filter screws on. Maybe a blockage in the engine somewhere, or he stripped threads putting filter on is what I suggested. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks ~ Jason
