I still think that a T3/T4 is too big for a 1.6 engine also, the GT series turbo are ball bearing and would spool a bit quicker. The T3 Super 60 is just a great match for the 1.6 engine and it can support the boost levels (15-20) that Jarid is looking to run.

try atp turbo, they have good stuff on their site
after checking the maps for both t3s60 and gt28rs, I come to think that the t3s60 would be a really good match. You'd have decent power till 6500rpm. actually it would be similar with the gt28rs. You'd probably get a faster spool up with the gt but it will cost around the double for the turbo. It's all the matter of money
After looking a little bit more at the maps a GT30R would also be a reallly good option to go with. Actually it would be my first pick if you were to go the 20psi route.

Is there a program that I can get where I can plug in A/R values and such and it will show me the map of the turbo? Looking at atp's website and looking at the Garrett GT2871R and not sure of what a/r to use.. You guys have been a big help. Definitely going with a GT ball bearing!!!

If your looking at the 2871R from ATP then I'd reccomend the .63 A/R T3 4bolt housing with the TO4E 4" compressor housing upgrade.

no way, the GT28/71R is going to spool way fast, and definatly give him the power and reliability. no it wouldent have that much lag. compaired to your existing T3. you probably spool around 3K to 35 now rite. well the GT28/71R will be about the same on a 1.6, at the very latest 4K, but you would be making an easy 250 to 300 WHP at 10 to 15psi. its a damb nice turbo. Well on the other hand Bugs and I have a bunch of IHI VF12's comming in from AUS, and they are a 300 WHP @ 15psi bolt on for a milled VJ20 exhaust housing. they are a bit laggy on a 1.6 spool is about 3800.JWMotorsports wrote:If your looking at the 2871R from ATP then I'd reccomend the .63 A/R T3 4bolt housing with the TO4E 4" compressor housing upgrade.

It will still have some lag which is a good thing actually for traction. It should spool quick around 3500 RPM and be full song by 3800 RPM. You'll actually have some boost under 3000 RPM. That turbo setup will support around 400HP. Here is a quick ref. chart to compare a few of the turbos we've been talking about:
T3 60 = 250HP
T3 Super 60 = 280-300HP
GT28R = 300HP
GT2860R (aka 28RS) = 350HP (aka Disco Potatoe)
GT2871R = 400HP (uses larger compressor on 28RS CHRA)
GT2876R (aka 25/40R) = 450HP
GT3071R = 475HP (smaller comp. wheel on 30R CHRA)
GT3076R (aka 30R) = 500HP-600HP (aka HKS GT3037 ProS)
GT3082R (aka 35/40R) = 600HP (uses 35R compressor on 30R CHRA)
GT3582R (aka 35R) = 600-700HP (aka 35/40R)
GT4088R (aka 40R) = 700HP
GT4294R (aka 42R) = 850HP+
GT4294RS(aka 42RS) = 1000HP+
For those that still need convincing that the old T-series is no comparrison to the new GT"R" series check this ATP dyno comparrison between a GT28RS vs. a T3/T4E on the same car. The GT"R" series turbo used a larger A/R exhaust housing and still out performed the old T-series turbo in ALL aspects! http://www.atpturbo.com/root/turbopipin ... gragsr.htm

Josh...you took my post the wrong way. ATP offers a .63 A/R T3 4bolt Exhaust housing to use on the 2871R CHRA and also offers the compressor housing to be upgraded to a 4" T4E which will allow for a higher flow on the compressor side. The CHRA (center section housing, bearings and wheels) are still the GT2871R's. His manifold uses a T3 flange and that is why he needs to use a different exhaust housing. The standard exhaust housing for the GT2871R is the T25 housing. Also the housing I suggested uses a 3" 4-bolt flange allowing a full 3" down pipe minimizing lag and optomizing both HP and response. I can tell you from experiance the smaller your down pipe, the slower the turbo responds and it also makes a very noticable difference in power out put.
