Polyurethan bushings for rear suspension

What do you think about this?
I can make polyurethan bushings for any part of our suspension on special factory.

Go for it. We already have nylatron bushings available for the front.

But the rear arms we could definetely use some aftermarket bushings. Mazdaspeed has an aftermarket set for $200 including new arms and such, but I believe it's still rubber. If you could do just the bushings for all the rear for under $100 a set, I'd buy it today.

The MS ones are only 20% stiffer. My car feels like it is on rails with Luke's stuff already. Some stiffining of the rear would be unbelievable. I've tought about it before, but haven't gotten around to the project yet. I don't know how you are going to make them, but if you need my ideas on home fabricating them let me know and I'll PM you my idea. Maybe you can draw something from it.

Don't go too stiff though... Rear TTL suspension relies on bushing compliance to put the toe-in during braking (and toe-in during suspension compression). Also because the 2 lateral link moves along the arc described by the trailing arms, too stiff bushings will result in binding. This is a 2 axis movement not a simple single axis movement like the front control arms.

Full stiff solution involves heim joints (a dozen of them $$$) and eliminates some of the TTL features (toe-in during braking is useful but the other one is there to reduce rear end rotation for the average driver).

I've been running with the SPC replacement tubular lateral links with the molded in urethane bushing for a few years now. Luc is correct high duro urethane does change the rear handling characteristics. How much it affects the car depends a lot on your total suspension set-up. Where I found the greatest improvement is after change the rear trailing arm bushing to a higher durometer urethane made by a company that casts bushing for an Canadian ATV and aerospace manufacture and adding the rear sub-frame braces.

i'd be interested except for the fact my mx-3 has a GTR rear subframe.... if you could make some of those bushings for me that would be great cause i know i should replace them but have no idea where in the world i'll get new ones even stock

You can get polyurethane or nylatron rods of a given diameter from McMaster Carr (there's a distribution center with pick-up counter in Elmhurst). If you knew the diameter of the bushing hole, you could select that diameter rod, cut to length, and drill out the bolt hole in the center.

Has anyone done a calculation what the import costs would be? Just the brokers fees would be at least $15 just to do the paperwork for the shipment then you have duties, tarriff and taxes. Since there are domestic urethane manufactures in the US and Canada Duties could be as much as 150% Depending on how it is shipped but making a quick check with my customs broker the the total to land these parts in to north america could be over $162

162 per what Vaughn? per set, per whatever is sent (group buy). It makes all the difference. If it is 162 for the whole lot then that might not be too bad after the cost is split between all the buyers.
