tranny swap
I planned a BPT swap for my car this winter but things didnt work out as planned... so i figure i'll wait til next winter so shes not off the road all summer tryin to find all the parts needed.. anyways my tranny is now fucked.. you can hear and feel it grinding when slowing down in and out of gear.. anyways i figure instead of fixing the POS i'll just replace it.. and since i plan on a BPT swap soon, does anyone here think it would be a good idea to bolt up the protege lx tranny in the mean time?? from what i read it will fit... but does this sound like a retarded idea? or should i just do it all together...I NEED MY CAR FOR THIS SUMMER!!
thanks!
thanks!

Usually I run items like this till they actually blow up. I would suggest first though checking the fluid level of the trans or running a combination of other fluids to see if it helps it survice better.
I am assuing that you have a 5 speed as well. I had previous run a combination of Syncromesh and 20w50 (50% of each) and had good results. This actually avoided the need to replace a tranny from the second gear syncro being fried.
Pulling and putting a transmission (as long as its manual) can be done in well under a day by a compotent tech. You should not be down for a while when you replace it.
