Why do WRX STIs sound so great?

They sound almost as good as V8s
What makes them sound so good?

Its because of the way the engine is setup, there a flat 4 called a Boxer engine, the same as the use in most Porche's. The cylinders fire horizontally (flat) insead of a V shape or inline setup, that is what makes the exhaust sound so different.

Well never heard a stock one...but when they put the exhaust on...man does it suk....sounds like a boat left the water and is zipping down the road.

Yea I think so, its also a SOHC I believe making it sound burly

Sti's sound way better then v8's, such a unique sound.

difference being a f1 car always sounds amazing, screeeaming along the track, using cuting edge technology and brute power and driving skill. and Ppl come out to see it and love it.

Driving a harley, unfortunatly is pushed in ppls faces, so many ppl drive around with their obnoxiously loud POS harleys, annoying everyone around. The sound can be said to resemble an overtly loud fart. Every pulse of the engine ends with a loud crackle sound or cracking sound. such a basic sounding loud engine. Nothing that special really.

especially since no one randomly walking down the strip wants to be deafened by some retard wearing a skull and bones on his gay leather jacket, decides to drive by about 5 times and accelerates when crowds of ppl are around as if he interests them. Funny thing is all the comments are the same. Thats "DAMN annoying and obnoxious", "that guys a dickhead", "i hope he crashes" etc etc.
