Gimme a break! :@

Post by JPEG »

I just had replaced the alternator and the battery on my 94, I'm at my second day, and I already notice slower winter start-up. What in the hell can be the problem! Could it be the 'distributor'? My JL amp? (which I don't think a amp can burn an alternator that fast) Thankx :'(

When you get a new battery, most times they are charged to about 15 volts, then it'll settle to around 12 or 13. that's prboably why it's a bit slower.

Well anything causing too much of a draw on the alt will cause it to burn out quick.

But it sounds like your just hhaving slow winter start ups. Something that just happens... If the car starts and idles/drives normal, and the only thing is that the the cranking is slow during cold starts, then its probably just the cold.

Yeah, it got better. Times when I'm only driving 10 minutes, I'm not starting the audio system, so it recharges, and I don't have any problems.

Thx!

when you buy a new battery, you should charge it as much as possible.. as the other guy said.. the only come charged to about 15V.. if you don't charge it.. it's gonna wear the s--- outta your alternator...because the alternator will be working super hard to charge it up.. BIG TIME

Did u check the battery cables for corrosion and such?

Might look at add two new grounds to the engine, one for the tranny, then a nice big one from the battery to the chassis.

But sounds like it's just a new battery thing
