Need a little help.....MX3 broke down

Post by Knives »

I was on my way home from work. She was running great, purring like a kitten. Wasn't stomping on it, just cruisin 55mph. Starts losing power, check engine light came on and I coasted to a stop, didn't make no noise when it happened, started smoking from under the hood up by the firewall, won't restart. Did oil change 3 days prior, and all other fluids are ok. It was dark, so I could not tell exactly where the smoke was coming from.

This is my first project car. I am pretty inexperienced at this and am learning as I go. Those are all great suggestions and I will post the answers soon. I'm workin all the time so I can't find time to work on it. Thanks for your help.on

Valves are moving
117,000 miles on motor
1.6

Timing belt snapped. Thanx for all of your help, folks. Appreciate it.

Insufficient data to form an educated guess on why ur car stopped running. Please clarify....

Where did the smoke appear from? Under the hood or the exhaust?

What is the state of your Engine Oil & Coolant?

Have you checked to make sure you haven't got a blown head gasket?

Checked ALL your fuses? - (Is there a master fuse for the ECU?)

Are all your HT cables in place & connected properly? (Plugs et al)

What lights came on, on the DASH when the power failure occured?

Anybody else wanna help with suggestions? I need to get back to work...

I agree with thunderstorm, you have to give more specifics about what happened and the location of the smoke. You said something about the fluids. Are they all up to the proper levels?. Try to see if the valves are moving, if their not, the belt is broke. How many miles were on this car? Good luck and let us know.

Check why The CEL came on.
You can put a jumper wire between TEN and GROUND in the small box near the battery and then turn the key to ON can after the light turns off for the first time, count the long then short flashes of the CHeck engine light. This should give you the reason why the car died.
