Turbos are better then S/C, but should I still go S/C?

As far as the 2.5L KLZE/KLDE engines go, I see you gain more power off a turbo then a SuperCharger

According to some of the guys on other forums (Probe Talk, MX6.com) the best SuperCharger for a KLZE is a Eaton M62 SuperCharger?

Anyway, here is why I am even looking into supercharging a KLZE
-For one, I like the fact that S/C dont take a long a-- time to install
-dont demand oil like a turbo
-more reliable
-dont generate as much heat as a turbo
-S/C gives you down-low power, and plenty of torque
-a rebuilt M62 is cheaper then a used Turbo system


I got a intresting question to you guys,
if you were to have 2 MX3s, one with a KLZE TurboCharged and another with a KLZE S/C, how bad would the turboed KLZE beat the S/C KLZE at the 1/4mile? Would it be by much?
I checked out Jeff Abram's website and found this, Image
according to the dyno, he got 231whp and 214ft torque.
Was that on a KLZE or KLDE?

Anyone got any advice as to why I should look into a turbo system instead?

depends how much boost you are running on both.
If running the same, S/C will get in front that's for sure
Isn't a 62 a little big for a S/C ? I'm not a s/c expert but it seems pretty big.

There is a S/C kit for the MX too. I'm not sure what brand ir size S/C they use, but it looked very comprehensive and comparable to the turbo kit being sold by Pakfiefer (sp?, I can never remember how to spell it :lol: ). I'll try and gid up the link.
To give credit where it is due, Numonic found the company and posted it on the MOCA forum. Funny how I've never heard about them on here.

Also, just a note, but S/C technology seems to have fallen behind a bit. Perhaps becuase of the popularity of turbos. Not that they will be slower or make less power in most cases, but with the advent of the Disco Potatoe (T28RS), and more to follow I'm sure, I think the S/C will see even less use than it does now.

Has anyone checked out the New Twin Scroll Titanium Turbos on the 2005 Subaru Legacy's?? Now those are sweet....


But ya S/C are still really cool. FlyinMiata has some for the BPs and they are sweet looking setups...

i personally would go with the S/C on a ZE. and a 62's not too big its just rite. and Jeff's car was running a DE if i rember correctly. i would run a ZE with headers and full exhaust then throw that M62 on there and get yourself some proper fuel management and you will be fine. somewhere around the 250ish range probably. the only advantage to the turbo is you dont have to take the power to make power and so you can go as big as you want pretty much. but an S/C would be less work, and your power is instant. what would be sweet is if you made a custom intake mani to take the S/C. that would be bad a--. and if you want turbo just for the sound, well now you can get BOV's for S/C's and then you could throw on a FMIC, and you will be cookin with crisco :lol:

iv been contemplating going to an S/C with my new motor, but i think since im already turbo i will stay that way for a while.

a custom intake mani would be awesome, but i cant see much room for the blower up there....

according to the eaton site
M90- 3.0L-5.0L
M62- 2.5L-4.0L
M45- 2.0L-3.0L

M45 is the one mercedes used in the c230 2.4 litre 4 banger
M62 is chevy cobalt ss (boooooooo ecotec) :)

You have to remember that Jeff used a centrifigul style blower, not a roots blower that would require a unique intake manifold. I would go with a turbo either way.

No, I don't believe so. Actually I believe it's less wear from less heat forced into intake.

At the end of it all, people can make viable statements as to which is better and ultimately it becomes a matter of choice and not one of which is better.

Actually, I have thought about getting a custom intake manifold and heads made.
There are some people down here my bro knows that can hook me up with some deals and with some people who know how to design that kind of stuff

It would be awesome if I can also get some cams made.

S/C with Water injection. Do it... With teh water you have no need for a stinkin intercooler 8)

If you really feel ambitious you could always do both. Turbo and S/C. all you need is a stand alone FM, and a Clutch style S/C. then when your turbo starts to gain more boost than the S/C you can tune it to free wheel. then you will have power all the time. you could get a really laggy turbo and the S/C would make up for the lag.

the stand alone im getting will be able to do this but im using this option for my Direct Port NOS.

Honestly if i do some AutoX next year i might end up swapign to an S/C. it all depends.

I'd rather spend my money on something else
Maybe end up getting forged High Comp pistons with forged rods.
Custom intake manifold with heads and more agressive cams...

The pic of my roots SC (Eaton M62 clutch-type) doesn't require any special IM. Those that go to the site I attached in previous post will see how simple the configuration is for a SC on a KL engine - actually more so than the Probe that's depicted because of the extra available space beside the disty. The bolt on kit depicted for the probe will be only slightly different for the MX. There's probably a good reason why Pontiac and MB chose the Eaton SC over the use of a Turbo. I don't know what it is though ...LOL
