Electric supercharger

Post by ariesdude »

Anyone tried this elctric supercharger?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mazda-Mi ... dZViewItem

The description says it might produce a whopping 2psi boost - even if that's true - how good is a 2 psi boost?

In the video/Images forum, I believe there was a cl;ip a while back of someone trying a gas leaf blower duct taped to the TB. If i recall correctly, it gained somewhere in the neighbourhood of 10 hp; then they tried it again this time spraying NOS through the air filter of the gas leaf blower with a gain of approx. 75 hp.

The concept works; forcing more air into your engine will gain you more power. How practical it is i dont know and whether or not these tiny fans you see on ebay flow enough air is also questionable.

This kit you found here looks better than the other electric superchargers I've seen advertised... It actually resembles a turbine lol

He claims in the ad that his supercharger flows 500cfm while only drawing 5 amps from your electrical system. By comparison to the "leaf blower" video we all saw, a primo, top-of-the-line leaf blower only flows 275 cfm and requires 12 amps to do so (Model 51598 in this link).
http://www.toro.com/home/yardtools/blow ... wer%20spec
Double the CFM with only HALF the POWER? A little hard for me to swallow.

Also, he has a dyno chart linked off of his ad. http://www.angelfire.com/ak5/bubba-net- ... um?i=7&s=1
Looks like he's got it hooked up to a completely stock Ford Tarus 4 cyl. It's hard to read the graph, but on the bottom I think I'm reading a hp difference from 88.1hp to 91.1hp for a gain of 3hp total. His toruqe reading looks like it starts with 97.3 ft/lbs and end with 94.3 ft/lbs for a total LOSS of 3 ft/lbs (If someone can read it better let me know!)

One more thing: He claims this mod only runs at WOT and will not restrict your flow when it is not running. How does having a deactivated fan blocking my air flow not restrict it? Something smells fishy there...

However, I am open minded and definatly all for cheap horse power until someday I can afford my B6T... If anyone gets this electric supercharger and finds a good gain let me know!!! (But I would warn you not to get your hopes up...)
It might be slow, but it's not a civic!

An electric supercharger is not "forced induction" and thus should be deleted from this forum. On a side note we don't have a forum that an electric supercharger would go under so I guess that we should never speak of them again.

I've reviewed those electric superchargers on the Miata and Mustang forums and both forums state their JUNK. Nobody every seems to know anyone that actually bought one and liked it or that it even worked. Several very intense mechanics even did serious research and comparisons between the electric and belt driven superchargers and all stated, DON'T waste your money.
Owner of 7 different cars, 5 being convertibles. 1990 Miata is one of my summer fun cars. I enjoy that car so much, I thought owning a MX3 would be fun also. Drive with your top open or top down. See my car web site at http://www.cardomain.com/ride/816145
