slow AND confused...

Post by DJGypsy »

i went to the track for the first time the other week. i had a .577 reaction and all my shifts were right on the money, but my ET was 18.7 @ 72.9mph.

i had NOTHING extra in the car. trunk was empty, back seat was empty and i had only like 1/2 tank of gas.

i had the engine (DOHC 1.6) rebuilt @ 115k miles, and it now has 155k miles on it, and it runs as strong as an ox. while it was being re-built i had the head ported and polished. i also have a CAI, 2 1/2" exhaust with 2 resonators and a high flow cat(so basically a straight pipe from the cat to the end), ACT stage 1 clutch, lightweight 14" wheels, h&r springs, tokico HP struts and falken ziex 512 tires.

why am i so slow? i hear about people going faster than this with less modifications than i have.

help.

thanks!
-Dan

hmmm thats really odd, cause i had the 1.6 DOHC motorwith 155xxx miles with CAI, 2 1/4 straight pipe exhaust, spring tech springs, and a set of bald tires, and i hit consistant 17.2's. maybe its telling you to upgrade and get a BP like what i did 8)

The fun of a Project car will alst longer than the excitement of watching it fall a few hundred feet. :o

Also, the slow thing is nothing more than your lack of time and money in the car. Don't blame it for your lack of attention to it. I know you thought school was more important, but you had your priorities mixed up. Make a fast car first then live in a trailer for the rest of your life.

I am also surprised by your times considering the mods, I would be expecting more high 16s or low 17s with that setup since I know of some MX3s 1.6 DOHCs with basic mods like intake and exhaust which are running low 17s. Is your clutch and gearbox in good order?

The DOHC 1.6 has 105hp, but may as well be around 88hp to the whls. Mine dynoed at 92hp before the swap.
