Definately a fixer upper/project car:
1992 mx-3 4cyl 1.6 5 speed 198k
Problems...
rusted quarters
misc scratches/dents/etc
needs exhaust
needs front cv's (I think - bad clicking when turning under throttle)
could really use a new gas tank/filler tube at some point. The rust in the tank chokes the filter when below < 1/2 or so after a few months. Cleaned out the rust a while back with a magnet & put in a new filter - starting to choke again now though.
On the plus side is that it's been really reliable in terms of engine & tranny - no problems noticed there. I also put on new struts last year, a new engine exhaust pipe the year before, and a new fuel pump a few months ago. Also got the AC working after not working for a few years recently - you can follow old threads on that one - stupid fuse!
I think the timing/waterpump was replaced around 140k, but I'd have to check to get the exact mileage...
I let the PA inspection/reg lapse since it was going to be a major investment just to pass the inspection & I didn't have time to do the work myself (exhaust, cv's, filler tube, tires). It was time, so I ended up buying a newer car instead. It'll have to be towed from 15332 (no lic/tags/bad cv's)
I'm just looking for a few hundred or so - thought I'd put it out here to see if anyone local was looking for a project car. Seems sad to just send it away to the junkyard - it's been a fun ride. If you're mechanical and can get used parts, it could be a decent ride again for not too much $$$...
