What tools are needed to install new starter?

Post by mxprecidia »

Hi I am driving to my car 2 hrs away tomorrow to change the starter and try to get it running. I have never changed the starter before and I don't want to bring more tools than I need. So if anyone can tell me what tools I am going to need, it would be very helpful. Also include any wiring tools like wire cutters or crimpers, etc. Thank you!

decided that was the cause? i just did mine on friday. keep in mind mine is the v6, but all you should need is a basic socket set. not 100% sure what's in the way to get access to the starter in the 4-cyl but it should be just 3 bolts holding the starter to the engine and a couple of wires. shouldn't be too hard, i got mine done in a 1/2 hr and it was my first ever. only one thing:

MAKE SURE TO DISCONNECT BATTERY FIRST.

good luck. :)

  nope, but i would hate to see someone spend $250 like me and burn out the starter before the first crank on the engine.
