BOV- blow off valve
a blow off valve is connected to ur intake pipe. when ur floorin ur car ur turbo is makin boost and when u let ur foot off of it there is still pressure in ur intake and u do not want all that boost left in there with ur foot of the gas so ur blow off valve takes that boost and vents it to the atmosphere in a pshhhh sound. a BOV can also make ur turbo last longer, work more efficient and u get that kool pshhhh sound!

you got the general idea of it but it's not quite thatfieromx3 wrote:BOV- blow off valve

when you boost, there a big pressure in the intake piping, but when you shift or let of throttle, the throttle body plate closes but the compressor keeps turning ! so the air will try to come back on the opposite direction (agaist the compressor wheel) so that's why this bov is in place so you can release the pressure. In the first case, the compressor will drop the velocity it's turning when when you'll come back in gear it's going to take more time to hit peak boost and you can damage your compressor..
Bottom line if you are boosted you need a bov or by-pass (instead of dumping the air to atmosphere it's plumb back into the intake)

yeah that's what I was talking about at the end of my last post. It's called a bypass valvefieromx3 wrote:also bov's do vent it to the outside but some ppl make it that all the air goes back into the intake insted of outside

well if the turbo has a wastegate external then what's the problem with the actual turbo ? the wastegate is not even on there unless you meant internal wastegate
