Door locked and not opening! HELP

The problem is the big rod connected to lock button is disconnected at the opposite end where it connects into a little L shaped piece of plastic and that is connected to another small rod which works the lock. The key doesnt work on the outside either. I tried for an hour to get it. I can't get the panel off either b/c the door won't open and I don't want to pull at it because it feels like if I pull it back any further it will break. Any ideas or suggestions.

slim jim it to open, then take off the interior door panel to fix.

A slim jim will still work? I figured that option was out of the picture b/c the rod was disconnected but now that i think about it they should be able to do it...thanks

Got it open and fixed. No slim jim required. Used a metal paint mix stick and pushed on the lock...just like a slim jim would have done.
