How do I make my rear lights like this!

Basically, my rear lights are totally standard and have this big ugly orange indicator at the edge,

I just 'borrowed' a bit of a picture that was already on this site, to show how I want mine to look:

is it just a simple case of taking it apart, and spraying the orange with red? or something else a bit more complicated?

I used model paint and the airbrush kit, took my lights off my car and painted the whole outside red except the reverse lights..PM me for some pics.
