You should check to make sure that the motor is OBDII first before you rack your brain here. I personally have not seen a '95 probe or '95 mx3 that was OBDII

written by omaha95pgt a while back

I'll keep a log of ECU part numbers:

OBD-I:

PGT ECU's:
'93 MTX: KL07 (CA=KL07 18 881C)
'94 MTX: KL48, KL50 (CA),
'95 MTX: KL89, KL90 (CA) [dark gray connectors], I also found some evidence of early model '95's with ECU's labeled KL48-18881-C

'93 ATX: KL07
'94 ATX: KL48

MX-6 ECU's:
'93: KL01, KL03 (CA)
'94: KL57 (CA MX6) [bright yellow connectors], also KL55 18 881B (Federal)
'95: KL86, KL85 (no distinction between ATX and MTX, no consistency between A or B suffix)

KLZE ECU's (must be used in combination with JE50 VAF):
MTX=KL31
ATX=KL36

OBD-II

'96 ATX=KLD1
According to this only the 96 ATX=KLD1 is OBDII.

I would check which ecu is in the 95 PGT & see if it is on this list. If it is it should work.

ECU can be found on ebay for around $40

So is that true? Only the 96 ATX PGT's were OBD2?

If so, thatd mean the motor, vaf, and ecu out of this '95 would work then right?

but is that ecu obd2 list accurate?

I would think it should be pretty accurate. Only way to find out is to check the ecu in the 95 PGT & see which one is in there. Then let us know & we could tell you if it's right or not, before you buy it

I dunno when it was written? I just found it in a recent post, but it was a quote from someone else.

But I would have to think that anything after that 1996 would be OBDII also

1995 - Base: Several stylistic changes from 1994 as follows: Tail lights are restyled, but plate still between the tail lights. Interior has been slightly restyled partially due to the addition of passenger side airbag. The interior door handles are also restyled. They are now just handles instead of being convenient places to keep some change like in the 93 and 94.
1995 - SE: No changes from 1994 except as listed above in the 1995 Base.
1995 - GT: Same interior changes as Base 95' and SE. License plate has been moved from between retyled tail lights down to lower bumper area. A large plastic GT logo now resides between tail lights. The small GT sticker next to the metal PROBE badge under the left tail light has been replaced by a metal 24V badge. The 16" 5 spoke alloys have been restyled from straight spokes to "sweeping" spokes. In addition, the trim for the rear lights on the GT is red.
1996 - OBD-II came in 96. Stands for On Board Diagnostics II. Pre 96 cars have OBD-I. You cannot read your own codes if you have a 96 or later, but the computer does not seem to be bothered by performance mods.

From a Ford Probe history time-line at http://www.aus-cartalk.com

So I guess thats good news for me! so i can buy the '95 PGT motor, VAF, aaaand ECU! thanks for all the help guys!

ODBII started in the second half of 95, and was completely changed over for all 96 and up.

Jus go and look at the ECU, if it has 3 connectors you are good, if it has 4 then keep looking or grab one on Probetalk...im sure you can get one for under $50.
