OK, there are 2 types of Glass headlight. It depends what your chasy number is, which you should get. Mazda wanted £340 for each headlight(F**k THAT). I found another place that could get them for £175 per pair + VAT. But they didnt know the differense between the two sets of lights. Durr

May be the difference is between a LHD and RHD headlights. One is for UK and other is for the rest of Europe.

Getting e-specs is very difficult. I got mine from ebay germany for like $300 shipped and that was a GOOD price. the Espec headlights always go for like 100-150 euro's each when they are listed on ebay. I saw a pair of new ones for like 350 euros on ebay once but I didn't feel like spending that much.
the optics are much better than stock compared to our **** housings. They use H4 bulbs and just flat out kick some *** ! I doubt you could swap just the glass, but if you did it would be pretty pointless. The optics are in the design of the beam pattern, not so much the lens, and the beam pattern is definitely different compared to the DOT garbage.
One thing I've always wondered is why the hell the Candian cars have DOT lens's. Excuse me for my ignorance, but isn't DOT an american standardization outfit that regulates United States cars? If this is the case, why on earth did canada either adopt, or allow this CRAP to enter their market. We could buy brand new especs from CANADA if it weren't for that crap

I've long wondered about that also. My best guess is that it's due to us having common roads that go between the two country and we're their "little b". Tho ECE lenses are legal in Canada...I've also wondered what happens if one with e-code optics drive to a state where they're not legal? As Taras said, I don't believe there would be much advantage to simply changing lenses. We'd be looking for complete H4 headlights (both sides) with glass lenses for a left-hand-drive car.
It looks like there might be a company in Brazil that makes them ( RCD - mentioned in another post), and I'm currently looking into contacting them as well.
Any info you can provide would be great!

E-Spec Front headlights - European OEM Prices as of June 200
Hi.
While I look for replacement headlight for my mx3, I kinda had to reply to all you guys looking for the E spec'ed headlight assemblys.
I checked with my local mazda dealer and this is the chocking prices for the original replacement headlights :
Front glas (headlight assembly WITHOUT inner reflector parts) : appr 600US$ a piece
Complete headlight WITH all inner parts incl 1 H4 bulb : appr 730 US$
If anyone should be interessted anyway, feel free to pm me and I can arrange for you to get in touch with a dealer.

I'm not sure when Canada adopted those reg's but I do know during my stay in Germany 25 years ago and up until I can recall there was always a big issue for bringing E-Spec vehicles back to Canada. For a long number of years Canadians stationed in Germany (and EU) were alowed to bring to bring home a EU made car but it had to conform to NA Spec. Cars had to be owned for one year prior to returning to Canada and there was an extra incentive because of discounts and exchange rates at the time that made it very lucrative. The reason given as to why it couldn't be E-Spec was that it would not pass safety inspections in Canada for headlights, windshield glass and few other items. So most people would bring back NA Spec BMW's, Mercede's, Porsche's, Audie's and Volvo's. ECE37 lighting regulations are allowed under alternative Transport Canada regs. Not sure from when. I think the reason Canada adopted most of DOT standards because it is easier for manufacturers and there are more cars go back and forth between Canada and US then Europe. Funny enough though, some of the cars on the US market are not allowed to be imported into Canada. Some for silly things like child seat anchor locations.
