Lots of white smoke! HELP!!!

Post by sicon99 »

The car was blowing tuns of white smoke.. so i figured it was the head gasket.

So i took off the head:
I took it in to a machine shop and asked to get it remachined/pressure tested. he looked at it and was like oh that the prob right there (lil tiny nick on edge of a hole)
so he remachined it

I put on new exhaust/intake/head gaskets
and put it all back togeater.

the car was all good no smoke nothing for the few hours i drove it after putting it back togeather.

since then it has been sitting in the driveway for about 3-4 weeks

now i started it up and it was showering out the smoke again>
so i tryed Gunk > heavy duty engine tight..
Still smoked.. Then i itryed irontight (coolent aditive)
Both of which are suposto fix small cracks in the head.
now.. Still smoking

i dont know what else to try.. should i just buy a new head????

Maybe you didn't torque the head down properly and you have a coolant leak into one of your chambers?

Do a compression test.

I torqued it to spec...
I will do a compression test tommorrow..
Dose it matter if you reuse the same head bolts?
I heard that some cars have torque to yield but i dont believe the mx3s are likt that.

i did at least 10 mx3 heads some were cracked some warped and some just needed a gasket.......but one cracked one did what yours did and it was the piston rings in the cyl that had the crack,i got the car from a guy who said he left it ideling for about 15 minets to find car overheating.do both wet and dry comp test and if there is an increase in comp,,,if there is then its swap time...good luc,if ya need a head i mite have one.

does it only do it when you start it up? could be valve seals...but it seems like it would be blue smoke.

it dose it right when i start it and continues to pour it out.. once the car warms up (temp needle is in middle or higher) it seems to tone it down to just a little.. so im thinking possiably cracked head..

yea it apears tobe all white...

I'm having the same issue. When my car has been sitting for a while like 4-5hours it smokes the same smoke like crazy but once it heats up the smokes stops. I was told before that it was the valve seals and that once the car heats up it will burn the oil quicker and wont allow any smoke i'm getting this taken care of this week.

check compression mine did the same thing when i first got it turned out to be cracked intake valve i replaced it and lapped all the valves runs great now except for a bad o2 sensor. one way to tell is to stand behind your car with it on and see if you smell raw fule. good luck
