Baby's First Dyno

Post by Nd4SpdSe »

I got the car dyno'd last night with a few other Toronto Mx-3'ers. Deimos has all of your dyno files, but this is what he was able to get for information for now. But theses are my best results after 2 runs:\

Max Power: 147.97ho @ about 5600rpms
Max Torque: 148.50ft-lbs tq @ about 4700rpms

http://ca.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/mclean ... pg&.src=ph

Conditions were:
79.42*F
29.70 in-Hg
Humidity: 37%
SAE: 1.00

-Blue was with CAI filter installed
-Red with CAI filter moved (i was curious)

I'll hopefully get the tq posted soon, but to give an idea, it started out at 130tq, rose slightly to 135 until 4100 when it rose to it's peak at 4700, then from it's peak, it steadily declined to 100tq at 7000

AS for Air/Fuel, i was rich starting at 3000rpms (12 on the chart if you know what your looking at), off the chart (10) at 5100rpms and spiked right off the chart from off the chart rich to off the chart lean (18) within 50rpms at 6000 (with CAI) and 6250 (w/o CAI)

NO kidding, but I know for a fact it's a ZE. After talking with a few guys there, and with everything i've already replaced, they're suspecting injectors, as well as recommening to regap the spark plugs a bit smallerr, an FPU and an S-AFCII

so if i am right:

you ran with and without the CAI. ( or just with and without the filter itself)

and without it you had a better result..

isnt that odd, or is there something else that makes the difference then..

ok it isnt that big difference ( 145 vs 147) but why did it make a difference?

i mean, i also have a CAI mounted, but hell, for the 2 hp i am removing it :D

that's 3hp PEAK, look at my power bands, I loose almost 20hp in the end with the CAI filter on...that's in my racing range too...

dood who did that dyno? They did a pretty crappy job

if your dyno sheet every fluctuates all zigzaggy like that they should always redo the pull. IT means the engine was jolting back & forth, and often it'll overstate or understate your HP and torque.

dont they always put a fan blowing to your car?

its not only for the airintake, but also for cooling the engine...

Of course, they actually had a few fans

I just pulled the filter off the end and left the pre-filter tube there.
I just suspected it was old and clogged, that was my reasoning behind the test without

Actually if you compared mine to the others, mine was ultra-smooth, unfortunately Deimos tool them offline.

I hope this test wasn't done after an oil change, PVC, new plugs, cleaned disty rotor and cap and the CAI ducting running into the fender well and not sucking in all of that stationary hot air? If it was then you've got one sick, tired, weak and not so heathy ZE happening Mikey. Don't know why you would attempt a Dyno run without having all of your ducks in order. After all, your trying to see if the fruits of your labours are actually panning out. Maximizing all of your options to accomplish an optimum Dyno run output would, IMO, be the only way to approach it. Am I off base here, lets face it, a Dyno run is not cheap.

oil change - check
PVC - nope (2 yrs old, didn't think of it)
new plugs - definitely check, few weeks
cleaned disty rotor and cap - nope ( ?- new cap last year)
CAI ducting running into the fender well and not sucking in all of that stationary hot air? The hood was open and it was sucking air directly from the huge fan, thatn with the MS bumper, it should have been nice clean air, plus the car got a little over an hour to cool down, plus we were all runing under the same conditions.

I was talking with Chasing_Size and he was saying it's probably a weak motor... he asked me what was the condition of the underside of my valve cover, and i remember it being a dark brown, apparently it wasn't taken care of. One thing that has haunted me since since we first started it up, my lifters were ticking, but she still pulled a 14.75 back in the day, that and this year i need to add a quart of oil between oil changes.

with compression results like:
180 185 170
185 160 180

I don't think's she's doing well at all. Surprise, surprise, I got a bad engine...no I'm not surprised.
