KLZE in 3rd gen. Protege

Post by purewhitemp5 »

Was looking up some info on protege5.com and came across someone installing a klze in their 3rd gen. protege. that would be a sweet upgrade for my P5, though the P5 is 200-300 pounds heavier then the MX-3. Anyone have any comments on this?

wouldn't it just be easier to boost it? I"m sure they're plenty of aftermerket out there thanks to the MazdaSpeed Protégé comes turbocharged I believe. If not, that engine swap would be much easier than to put a KLZE in

The turbo in the MSP is pretty whimpy from what I hear at the MOM (Meeting of the Mazda's) last July. Pretty simple/basic plumbing and set-up. Quality after-market juice would probably be a better route. Economy-wise, MSP turbo would be the better route.

I believe that MSP has an upgraded turbo with mental addictions tubular manifold and exhaust. their is also a vid clip of his dyno run after each bolt on. if i rember he gained 40 WHP off of the manifold alone, and upping the boost a little.

Neon's are slow (SRT). i have had no problem waisting them at 14psi on my wheeny vj14. although they have potential.

If you think a six in a MX-3 is tight, dang it's tight in a P5 I believe they even had to modify the frame rail. I was comparing my MX-3 and P5 and looks like the radiator would have to be moved forward about 1 1/2". And the frame rail would have to be notched . Not to mention custom mounts , axles and wiring harness. The HI-Boost Turbo System would give the 2.0L P5 about 210 - 215 wheel HP for about 4g's. A turboed KLZE would put out -______ ?anybody? for _______ ?anybody? Other than that mods for the P5s engine bay are as limited as the MX-3 mostly JDM stuff and very limited Aftermarket. Also $1000 shipped For the KLZE is just a tad cheaper than the FSZE at about $2000-$2100 shipped. Just my ramblings.
