whats up guys, im very new to the mx3 community. i am selling my 1990 rx7 tomorow (friday), and have been thinking about buying a 95 mx3. i dont want to offend you guys at all, as we are all here for the love of cars, but i know im going to be suffering a slight downgrade in perfermance. my rx7 was a blast to drive, having a boosted rotary is like driving a bat out of hell. but im about to go to college and i need something a bit more tame that can get a lot better gas mileage. my question is this: the mx3 im looking at is a 1995, automatic, with 160K miles on it. i talked to the guy at the car lot where it is at, and he ~said~ the car runs great, and i specifically asked him about any tranny problems, and he was sure there were none. so ive decided if i approve of the car tomorow and buy it, im definately going to put a transmission cooler on this weekend. what advice do you guys have as far as anything i should know about the car? its going to be a daily driver for a while (hopefully) and definately not intended as a sports car, as my 7 was. thanks for any input, its much appreciated!

Auto Transmission question.
test drive it, take it home and check the tranny fluid. If the fluid is BLACK or has a burnt smell bring it back and say no thanks. If its dirty and brown than its ok just change it soon. Check how the gears shift, make sure its smooth and it doesnt slip/clunk/chatter/squeal etc etc.... If you get it then first thing is change oil and transmission fluid. A cooler is not essental if you dont plan on driving the car hard. Just change the fluid at the reccomended intervalls. If you are going to drive the car hard then yes add a cooler....

Bad move, be ready to get the tranny rebuilt or changed
I dont care how the car runs, unless the tranny has already been rebuilt, bad move.

The only thing bad about this is he is selling a 1990 Rx7 turbo... to where do I send a check?.....
If the fluid is anything other than bright red or pink, run. Brown, black, or smells even a little burnt, forget it. If its red or pink, and doesnt smell burnt, have the fluid changed at your earliest convenience (**NOT** power flushed), add a cooler asap regardless of how you plan to drive it, and it will be ok as long as the previous owner didnt beat the crap out of it.
If you guys think buying an Mx3 with 160k on an automatic is risky, try relying on an Rx7 turbo as your primary transportation. As me how I know.
Get the Mx3.
