Lean under load

Post by yiorta »

So i have a 96 1.6 DOHC and my problem is that when i put load (lights or heater or ac...) the idle drops and when driving the car crowls (I HIT THE GAS AND THE CAR GOES TOTALY LEAN). Without loads everything runs great. Could be TPS?

What makes you think that it's running lean under load?

Ibelieve it goes lean because of a reason who says to ECU to cut the fuel. And the symptom is that when i drive and i am in torque with the gas pedal pressed, if i decide to press it more its like i hit the pedal in neutral! It then needs to pump and pump many times to raise the rpm. All these under load. So i checked the tps with the feeler and an ohm meter it is not the cause. Maybe timing? My spark plugs, gaps are new.

You might try putting some good fuel injector cleaner in the tank.I have found Chevron with Techron to work the best, I'ts pricy but worth every penny.

The fuel filter is clean. The air filter the same. The injector cleaner should help? Also my idle screw is totally tightened and still i cannot set the idle below 900 rpm but i can stand it.

i had the same problem before. what i ended up doing is putting in a 90 amp alternator, off of a GS actually mine was off of a Millenia. seemed to solve everything. i could run all acessories on even the A/C. and that was when i had the ATX. and it sux even worse when you have an auto and your bogging down.

How old is your battery? Maybe not enough juice to produce a good spark?

Use a voltmeter and check for 12.5 when not running. Then check when it is running. You'll want to see around 14V. Don't electricute yourself. :D

I will check it asap. At the meanwhile yesterday i disconnected the (brand new) heated oxygen sensor. Guess what: no more stumbles and jerkings... Of course the car is not having all it's power gain but under all loads it is solid when driving AND when idling. Wtf?

My timing is (and was) perfect. The battery also good i didn't test though the alty. Could it be the catalytic converter cause i here it sometimes doing noises?

When I disconnect the o2 sensor problems stop but i would say the total power falls enough which is normal to happen. But i know that the 02 sensor is not the cause of the problem.
