getting a new exhaust tomorrow - what tube width works best?

Post by snellgrove »

Hi guys, I've just been searching but can't find a real definitive answer (or anything even like one)

So, basically I'm getting a cat-back system fitted tomorrow (mostly for the noise, i'll admit it.. I'm not going all-out on performance because at the end of the day, its just a cat-back!!)

but... if there are any performance gains to be had, i'll take them! im getting a custom made system done (not crush bends either  )

The engine itself is a completely standard 1.8 / V6, the JMZE I believe the VIN starts with.

any recommendations? do I keep the piping relatively small, or do I make it go large?

They say 1" per liter is the best. But Id go to 2.25" if your staying with the stock motor.

what about an 8L V10 Viper GTS? an 8" pipe eh? jk :P

I agree.. no more than 2.25... even 2 would be more than enough for the tiny 1.8L

Remember man, dual exaust....I belive they use dual 3"

Personally, I'd say 2" on a K8, unless your planing to do a 2.5 swap in the future, 2.25 wouldn't be a bad idea

If your doing any mods, Id go with 2.25".

If not, then leave it stock. If your only going up .2 inches, its pointless.

it has a 1.8" as standard then?

I dont think I'm going to change anything soon, the KLZE would be awsome at one point but I highly doubt i'd get round to that, and theres all the effort of getting a good one etc etc.
