can I remove the heat padding from under my hood?

Post by BornSticky »

Im talking about the carboard stuff that is stuck to the top of the hood. Its just that mine looks like crap its all cracked with pieces missing and broken. I use my car a daily driver the engine gets pretty hot at times im more just afraid if I remove it, it wont warp the hood or anything like that?

Am I better just to leave it on even tho it is a huge eye sore?

No, thats how the old car in the 60's used to roll, even though our hoods are made from thinner gauge steel it has memory and it takes a lot of heat 300+ degrees, it might eat the paint eventually, but thats how my 94 is

My 95 RS doesn't have any of that stuff attached under the hood. If it did, I'd have taken it off by now fwiw.

You will damage your paint. The v6 runs a lot hotter than the 4 cyl and also the intake manifold is close to the hood. Leave it on.

I guess I'm a little different than most and prefer to keep it. As mentioned in parallel thread, I like the fire retardant properties but mostly the reduction of engine noise, road noise and any other noises period. Those engine sounds that really matter will make themselves known easily enough and it's just the perriferral sounds that I like to muffle. Besides, I think it's an extra measure in preventing premature paint fade on the hood, IMO.
