obd1 or obd2

Post by archibale »

Hi, i'm a little bit lost in all the post on this subject, some said yes some said no.... I just have a little question

I'm trying to swap a bpt in my mx-3 dohc 94 rs and i want to know if my harness fit with the bp26 ecu. I was thinking that all the mx-3 dohc were obd2 but in one post it said that it was after 94 that it change for obd2 (95-96). Thanks for the answer and excuse me for my english!!

yes, early years of the 3 were OBD1, and they changed to OBD2 in 95 i believe..

in the US.. most cars 96+ came with ODBII, to comply with iso standards.

if you had obd1 that would work better with less issues, Ive heard that people trying to swap a bpt and keep there original harness with obd2 and stock ecu have had issues, a lot more than with the obd1 system.

Mine is a 96 (canada) and its OBD 1.

And im 100% sure it is too, cause the company I used to work for developed OBD2 Electronics for cars/trucks and semi's.

They wanted to use my car to test out some equipment but they found out my MX3 was only OBD1

Now im not sure if it has to do with the fact that my car was produced in late 95 cause it was part of the first 96 run. Cause their are 96 mx3's with obd2 in them.

actually even though they didn't change to obdII till later in the 96 production cars 94 and new mx-3 engines have a somewhat hybrid system in that it is a mix of obdI and obdII they did in preperation of the obdII systems my 95 protege was obdII but had components of the obdI system
