It's a Lincoln Precision 185 High Frequency Square Wave TIG w/ Pure Argon for sheilding gas.
Input is 230VAC w/ up to 50amps of draw.
Output is rated at 5-185amps AC, DC+, or DC- and it can weld upto 1/2" thick Stainless Steel w/ a single pass.
It has a LOT of adjustability and weighs in at a hefty 212lbs!

Wow, thats a pretty impressive welder.
Looks like you're pretty skilled with it as well. I've never tried TIG, but I've heard it's pretty tricky.
I'm about to buy a chicago electric MIG. I'm going to get the gas conversion kit for it because flux core is a joke. Time for some new turbo pipes with a FMIC
BTW, how do you go about running a 230V input welder? Isn't that the 3 prong that is generally used for washer/dryer plugs?

Yes that is what most dryers use. I'd recommend having an electrician run a new circuit from the main breaker box using 6-3 gauge wire or thicker. We used an existing line where my father used to have a hot tub and extended it out to the garage. 50' of 6-3 underground wire with a external mount junction box ran me around $100. The 185 Precision TIG w/ Ready Pack was $1530 from http://www.weilerdirect.com/
As for the welding, my friend did the welds. I own a kick a$$ TIG but haven't had time for him to teach me yet. I've been watching him and so far all I'm good at doing is burning holes!
We're trying to get my drag car running before I break another tranny in the RX-7 (I'm planning on a Turbo II drive line swap). But now that he had an unfortunate accident (fell and damaged ligiments in his shoulder) I'll have to learn how to TIG weld now with his guidence. With practice I'll been fine, so far I've only tried it twice.

UPDATE on project:
06/24/05 We went to a 1/8th mile track in Natural Bridge, VA
9.062 sec. @ 81 MPH (the track was like driving on wet pavement!)
We were turning faster trap speeds than an STi there. The STi was running 28psi w/ no exhaust (turbo down pipe to atmosphere). The track was REALLY slick and the STi was pulling about 6 cars on us out of the hole. But after our car started to hook a little it pulled on the STi. We were on his bumper and passing him coming through the 1/8th mile traps. If it had been a 1/4 mile we would have pulled about 10 cars on the STi. The sleeper is only running about 10psi. To give you an idea of how slick the track was my RX-7 will barely bark 2nd gear on the street. On the drag strip my RX-7 spun ALL the way through 2nd gear (I beat a Camero). The STi was averaging 8.7 sec @ around 78 MPH
Next plans are to add an FMU, external wastegate, and turn up the boost!
Right now the 440cc injectors are maxed out under boost w/ the 1:1 RRFPR (off of 323 turbo fuel rail)

diff
Hey Jeremy you forgot to mention our first diff explosion, lol. On my 10th run of the night(up against a built mustang 5.0) I popped the diff on the line, so i just stabbed it to the floor and finished my run, still pulling 2 or 3 cars on the mustang that had beat me in a previous run. We got it back home that night and by the next day we had pulled it out rebuilt it and put it back in the car.(Im rapidly becoming a big fan of backup parts)

Update on sleeper
Ok well...to start off i finally killed the motor...blew the rings out of cyl 1 ...keep in mind this motor was pulled directly out of a junkyard and thrown in the car so it lasted long past our expectations...when i first tested compression on the bp it looked like this...cyl1 135, cyl2 145, cyl3 140, cyl4 150....so the motor was running far below stock compression...getting ready to order new parts for a stock rebuild and there is another dyno day coming up in october, im hoping to make it there and ill post results at both the same boost level as previous test and at about 15-18lbs...also have a new equal lengt manifold in the works and possibly a accel dfi gen 6 standalone...thinking about buying one from jwmotorsports...when i finish the new manifold i will be upgrading the turbo to a T3 60-1 so if you might be interested in buying my current setup let me know....

Re: 16G turbo on a BP = Sleeper
JWMotorsports wrote:We got tired of playing with the all motor BP setup. The car is running pretty good, smacking local Hondas left and right running all motor. We decided that it's time stop advancing the timing (setting at 26* advance currently) and give the turbo Hondas a hidden dose of their own medicine. We're keeping it sleeperfied for the moment.
We fabed up a short runner manifold (my left over manifold pieces), picked up the slightly used 16G turbo from my brother's Talon (I'm rebuilding it with a GT32 turbo, oversized valves, blah blah blah), jacked the side mount IC and BLOV off of it while we were at it, and I donated my old RC Eng 440cc injectors. The car already has a Wahlbro 255 pump in it, Jacobs Ignition, Magnacore KV85 Plug Wires, SPEC light weight flywheel, ACT racing clutch, and massive weight reduction.
The side mount intercooler is going in front of the driver side wheel well, it required a little more weight reduction to make it fit. We're even using the stock DSM IC hoses (for now).
Here are some pics of the turbo manifold with the 16G just bolted to it (those are the stock DSM Oil and Water lines still on it). We'll keep posting updates...soon to include time slips, etc...
I WANT A 16G SO BAD!!!
I might go with a 50 trim or a 20G for my future setup.
You are going to smack some serious a-- with that thing.
It has better handling than a DSM and weighs like 500 lbs less.
BTW - I have a DSM
