Funky Torque Curve

Post by UKMX-3 »

Wondered if anyone could explain this messy little torque curve.

When it was done I had an HKS induction kit and a 5" Backbox.

The huge dip at 4k rpm is a bit concerning, is this a normal VRIS related characteristic of the engine?

Below is a list of the actual figures from the run

Thats not a huge dip. It only looks huge because the scale they used is ridiculous. 96HP is the lowest value, not zero. If you plotted that on a normal scale, it'd look fairly flat. And why does the scale only go to 6500 RPM? You should do a pull on a K series engine all the say to 7500 RPM.

On what car? You do have a V6 if you're posting in the V6 forum, right? Fuel cutoff on 92-1997 Mazda V6 manual transmissions was 7500.....at least in North America and Japan.

Thats only like 1/2 a HP.

Look at your numbers on the left of the graph= they go up in "two's"

Sorry guys.

Okay I admit it, I usually back of the throttle when i get to the Red-Line, and its been a while since i've really hit the switch so i guess i just forgot about the really rev-limit for the car.

So im assuming that

135.3bhp
and
117 ft/lbs torque

is about on the mark for a mildly tweaked 1.8 Mx-3?

Im a bit fed up because my 4th attempt at geting someone to do a KLZE swap has fallen through, and I cant do it myself becasue i dont have the space or the equipment to do the work.

Those are fine numbers for a K8 and the dip in torque is where the VRIS changes, so I'd say all is normal.

yeah thats normal, all my 92 gs has is an exhaust and some double platinum plugs and it lights up right at 5000rpm... in every gear.
