Need Urgent advice/help

Post by nos92mx3 »

Ok well my oil light came on today, though not completley only dim, so of course i turn the car off and check the oil.
Oils Full.
SO a long story short i replace the oil pressure sensor and the light got brighter  . SO after that i let it run for 15 seconds tops and i wanted to see if it was getting oil pressure so i started to unscrew the oil filter, and well now i have a 7x7 puddle of oil underneath my car.
Im confused/scared.
To top it all off i bought a oil pressure gauge from advance auto parts and it was already stripped   :x . and on top of that i need to order a special adapter from mcmaster.com so i can install the oil pressure gauge. Adapter is 10 mm Bspt to 1/4 npt. Oh and they dont accept paypal and only credit cards (which i dont own :x)
Its been a very long day, can anyone shed some light on my problem(s).

From what I have heard about the oil pressure light it only comes on when the pressure is below 10 psi. "By the time that light comes on, its allready too late"
Even if there was no oil pressure, oil would still come out of the filter because the filter is blocked with oil regardless if there is pressure or not. I think your oil pump may be gone there buddy. If you can get that pressure gauge to work then you will be able to get a true reading but I would say that your oil pump may be messed up or just plain gone alltogethor.
I asked the mazda dealer about oil pumps and the guy said hes worked there for years and dosent remember ever selling one to someone because I believe they are very simple and rarely does anything go wrong with them. Yours could still be gone though. Check the pressure and if there is nothing there then your pump gotta be gone. I can remember the dealer saying that the pump was about $350 or something. I could be wrong though. Check it out and let me know what the story was.. Im intrested.

Yea ive got the adapter for the pressure gauge on the way from mcmaster.com.
At autozone a mellings oem replacement oil pump was only 85$ with all the gaskets and such. Its not the price of replacing it its the whole time consuming/not beng able to work on my car before 5pm deal.
Ill let everyone know i hope that i caught this in time before i did any serious damage.
