Dynamat!!!

Post by EvyllChyld »

I just have a quick question about it... Does anyone know how many square feet i'll need to do my trunk, and the cab?? including the floors, and ceiling? and doors??? I don't know if the 36sq feet pack will be enough, or if i need the 100sq feet pack. Also, does anyone know a site that sells it for cheap??? thanks for the help

in theroy yes but the less there is to rattle the better (sound deading adds mass to objects to stop from viabrating)
so you really don't need to add alot really jut strips of the product but me i plan on a big sound system so the more the merrier

Buy a roll of roofing underlayment. It does the same thing as both of those products, and is much cheaper. AND you don't usually have to buy the whole roll if you dont want to. The only downfall is that your car will smell like a roof for a while :D

I did a search on ebay for 'dynamat' and there are a lot of other sound deadening products.

but what get's me is a guy selling the stuff you can get at home depot for cheaper then what he is selling it for!!!! :D :D :D (it's called peel and stick I beleive)

or when It was out I got 170sq/feet of stuff called brown bread. Works great

I can understand how the roofing underlay might smell. Its tar paper!

How about these other products? Any other drawbacks such as smell?

roofing underlay is a different type of tar it is meant for outdoor us only the reason not to us it in your car is that fact once it starts to heat up it stinks and releases harmful toxic gases into your car so it's the equivalent to driving around with your exhaust piped into your car. car sound deading (dynamat and brown bread etc.) are ash based products that are designed to be used in enclosed areas in which a living person is to be seating in when this material heats up it gets sticky (thats why it requires a heat gun to apply properly) it doesn't release any harmful gases. So it's up to you, 1 you can save your self some money on buying roofing underlay and use that saved money for you hospital bill or 2 you can do things the right way and get the proper sound deading material
