ECU Question
Ok i have done my KLZE engine swap now but i am running my stock K8 ECU.
I need a new on i was wondering the difference betwen the KL31 and the KL36.
Now are the J-spec and the A-spec ECU's different or could i go to the the junkers and get a American Ecu out of a 626 or something and it will work fine.

Do not use a remapped ECU or Eprom ECU
KL31 and KL36 will be your best bet. Get either if you have a 5spd. Both will work.

kl31 kl36
no difference really, ones for the automatic and ones for the manual both work equally well.
I tested the 31 on my car and it takes along time for my fans to kick in(probably cause i havnt swapped the coolant sensor)
the 36 stays on all the time (which will be fixed when i swap that coolant sensor) power on both is the same and the powerband of the engine is the same you dont feel a different pull at different revs.

Short answer - YES. The KL01 ECU which I believe is the MX6/626 ECU and you will need the corresponding KL02 VAF, also from the MX6/626 I believe. Should consider acquiring a KL31 or Kl36 ECU where either one will require the use of your old VAF - JE50.shawno wrote:so could i use a ecu out of a american 626 for the KLZE and work fine or do i need a j spec one meant for my engine

Yes, f you use the american spec ecu....you will need to use the corresponding vaf to work with itshawno wrote:so if i use the american Ecu its the KL01 i need the vaf to work with it.
Yes, if you get a KL36 or KL31 ecu, you use your stock je50 vaf thats on your 1.8shawno wrote:But if i get a KL36 ecu i can use my stock vaf of the 1.8L and not get a new one
I think alot of people have different opinions on this one...I'm sure Jschrauwen can help you out with this one, as I believe he has run both set ups.shawno wrote:and if i use the american ecu instead of the j spec on will i still get the same amount of power.

I've used the KL01 ECU and KL02 VAF combo but the time lag between the change-over to the KL31 and JE50 VAF was a little to long to make any sort of performnce critique. Suffice it to say that there were still gobs of power there in comparison to the K8. I do think that I may have been running a little rich only because of running the Millennea IM w/ corresponding fuel rails and KL68 TB both of which may have contributed to the rich condition when integrated with the A-Spec components (KL01ECU/KL02VAF). I believe that I posted something similar in "shawno's" other thread.
Good memory Brandon!!!

What if you have a KLZE w/the K8 automatic transmission?jschrauwen wrote:Correct on all 3.relisys_3200 wrote:Yes, f you use the american spec ecu....you will need to use the corresponding vaf to work with itshawno wrote:so if i use the american Ecu its the KL01 i need the vaf to work with it.Yes, if you get a KL36 or KL31 ecu, you use your stock je50 vaf thats on your 1.8shawno wrote:But if i get a KL36 ecu i can use my stock vaf of the 1.8L and not get a new oneI think alot of people have different opinions on this one...I'm sure Jschrauwen can help you out with this one, as I believe he has run both set ups.shawno wrote:and if i use the american ecu instead of the j spec on will i still get the same amount of power.

Will any KLZE ecu work?
