What the heck happened to all of you guys?? Besides DEB, what about the guys in Kingston, Cornwall and parts of eastern Ontario? You missed out on some real nasty twisties. Like Kris said 160 in 5th down in a blink of an eye to a second gear corner, thought my shifter was going to come right out in my hand. Boy does that suspension work good. You'll have to ask Ian "Deimos", when he comes back tomorrow if he had to change his underware. He thought he'd like to mix it up at the front of the pack with the RX7's and 8's. Those single and twin turbo guys can really turn the wick up. I think it only took a short section of the route for Ian to reconsider his choice of playin' with the big boys and joined the rest of us more cautious (LOL) ones. I've enjoyed those types of roads on the Quebec side many times before when living in Ottawa but others who've never been had a bit of an eye openner I think. I could'nt believe Kris was just smokin', keepin up with the big boys, when all the while I thought he was running a K8. Turn's out it's a ZE in disguise with a K8 IM and TB. The last gen RX7's are some fast...holy sh*t. Incredible acceleration out of the hole, rock solid stable on everything and superb braking!! And the RX8's, just the same only quieter...LOL. I don't know if anyone else got pulled over but it appears that some of the locals were a bit miffed that these "sport cars" were passing on the double yellow line....don't know anything about that "wink", but the local police pulled six of us over at once and did the routine check. She, yes I said, She, had nothing to charge us with because there were no licence plates taken but that if there were further complaints where our plate numbers were taken that we would be in ka-ka (not her exact words). This was all a few minutes after one of the RX's found out how soft the shoulders can really be. Thank God he had only a few scratches and bruises on his arm. A little bit of a reality check when you see a fellow enthusiast upside down, down a 15 foot hill with the front winshield and roof flattened. Our group of six decided that after being pulled over that we already had our 2 strikes and weren't going to push the envelope for the duration of the route which was near the end anyway. Kris and I returned tonight and Ian and Mikey are returning tomorrow. A local Ottawa RX'r even gave Kris and I personal escort into Ottawa at the end of the run to get gas and back on the highway again. What a super bunch of people. There were no reservations about the MX'rs joining the ranks of the "Rotor Heads". What can I say, twisty roads, great camaraderie and hosting, good food, beaucoup tanks of gas well spent, only thing missing was you guys. Jaimie, I didn't take any pics, but there were a ton of people who did so I'm sure between Mikey and the RX'rs and their BB, there should be tons of still and video footage. DEB, you shocked the hell out of the RX'rs with your escort. They especially liked you spinning in the gravel to get onto the highway. The female passenger ahead of me was completely beside herself when she realized and said on the FRS "It's a girl!!!!"....LOL Those FRS radios are just the ticket. Those things really make those road trips with groups really effective and I'm glad I got a set.
Ian was all set for camping, or so I thought when he openned his hatch at the Corel Centre and played a few tunes and revealed his cooler, groceries and hibatchi.
Mike, had his ICE all set up and was well connected...LOL
Kris appeared wide eyed and a little apprehensive to the whole spectacle.
I stayed at the Econo Lodge where a lot of the Toronto RX'rs stayed....great bunch of people very approachable and friendly. Many thanks to Chris, Chris and Scott. And of course to Will, our host. He opened up his house to everyone and coordinated the event very well. Got to see his first gen right hand drive RX...very sweet!!

You guys missed a great weekend, rain or not, it was still fun. I must go now and wash and wax the car...AGAIN!!!...LOL.

OMG, how could I forget. There must have been 2 or 3 RX's shooting flames out the exhaust. I mean not just once in a blue moon, almost all the time. It was way too much. Twin tail pipes with twin flames, just a shame I didn't see it at night. I though we (MX's) had a loud exhaust note, you should hear some of the RX's....holy sh*t!!! Nothing like the sound of a twin turbo spooling up as he smokes by you.....it's all a blurr now...LOL

I'll post pictures when I get home, but it was one hell of a drive. I was really happy to keep up with the fast group of turbo FC's and FD's, it was one hell of a drive and the car performed phoenominally well, expecially in braking and handeling.

Hey guys, great meet.

Thanks to all that showed up. Over the years there used to be a few miatas, proteges, mx6's but they all seemed to disappear. It's good to know that there are other enthusiats out there. For those that missed it, I don't think words can describe the whole trip. Just make sure you show up next year, you won't regret it.

See you guys next year.

Mike
BTW I was the asian guy in the red FD.

All i can say is "MY GOD" did you guys miss out on a great weekend
those roads were WICKED, running around turns with a posted limit of like 40 at about 120 in 4th, then ya havta downshift to get going on the next curve (i probably reduced the life of my K8 by about 10 000 km or so, but i'm hoping to go ze next year anyway)
....btw i was the ONLY K8 in the bunch, the 3 other mx's were all ze's, and i believe in the first leg of the trip i held my own (...steering wheel...with a death grip) :)
and now at least i know for certain what part of my suspension is bad...i'm told that my front passenger wheel was jumping like a jackhammer. i just can't wait to try it next year with my new suspension (hopfully next week) and ACTUAL SUMMER TIRES (i don't think i'll b able to use my Signets for next winter anymore) coming at the end of the month. maybe then my stereo won't skip so much :)
i must thank our host of the bbq and the host club for a greatly planned weekend (despite the weather the first day), also all the rx's that accopanied me back to ontario after the "mis-hap" - as for you two, i'm glad nobody was seriously injured and hope you don't have too much trouble getting the car home. you'v gotta love it when you see fellow car enthusiasts doing whatever possible to help one of their own.
anyway, i'm sure the rx guys have more pics, same with mike, cuz alot of them had co-pilots, i wish i coulda got a few in from the cruise, or a video woulda been perfect, but i took what i could, and it'll all be posted at my website either tonight or tomorrow night
http://mclean.8m.com/MX3/ and then just click on the appropriate links (btw, its just a directory listing, i havn't had time for anything proper)
you guys should at least show up this wednesday so we can tell the tales a bit more properly, there's not enough room on this board to go through it all.

I noticed Ian didn't mention the underwear part...LOL. That was probably sometime during his "death-grip" on the stearing wheel....(jk)

I must say, the car performed beautifully in all aspects, acceleration, braking and handling, i couldn't ask for much better (except for power ;)). I was constantly with the fast group (except at the start, I couldn't pass anyone, it was too twisty). I don't know what to think my car stands in relative to the Rx-7's. Sometimes i would catch up to the turbo FD's in acceleraton if i gave it my all, sometimes N/A FC's would pass me if i didn't shift down (or shift down enough), even then, its tough to pass anyone tho when your inching 200 on some of the straights. The silver Rx-8 from Quebec even said my rear wheels where off the ground about 2 inches going over the one hill. :D I was mostly in 5th gear, rarely downshifting to 4th, barely even touched 3rd (although I could have alot of times, I was just lazy)

Most of the time I didn't give it my all, I took it easy but fast, the parts were on the car for only a few days, I still wasnt used to her (especially since I haven't pushed her to the limit before then). That and I didn't wanna always be at full acceleration, the car is LOUD at WOT, had to be considerate for my passenger.

I must say, compared to 2 years ago when I did this, my car had no performance upgrades and I completely sympathise with the white-knuckled-need-to-change-my-underwear driving that Ian went though (and there was no slow group when I did it) to the fast and easy driving I experience Sunday.

For those feeling the "Need For Speed", this is a weekend to look forward too.
