I came up with that 2 after a healthy search. Dependant upon application.

I don't know anything about phenolic spacers other than I believe that it's purpose is to disipate unwanted heat..I think. At any rate, another topic for another thread could be titled "heat relief".

Thanks for the info guys.

Thanks Gro & Blue, you've been a big help. So it looks like I'm good to go with retaining the KL68 on the Millennia IM and utilizing a KL31 ECU with no side effects right? If a situation presents itself in the future, would you suggest a different set-up or TB. BTW, ordered KLZE MS8 version of phenolic spacers hoping I wont have an issue with the TB. I included my IM and TB type in the notes of the order form - hope they read it.

The pheno kit that I just recieved from Outlaw had the correct TB gaskets and spacer for the KL68.

ok, you guys are making me feel so much better. a "kl31" stamp on the TB means its a klze, and not a klde? i hope this is correct. :D :D :D

Kim, do not go solely on that premise that it's a ZE engine. There are a couple of current posts going that include pics for indentifying a ZE. Like head stamping of KL31-1a1 and KL31-1o1 I believe. They're there, just do a quick check.

The last one should give you the best indentifying pics.
A KL31 stamping on the TB is simply that - a KL31 TB and not necessarily the whole engine. Pics show the indentifying spots to look for.

Not sure if piston check is going to be very revealing unless you know specifically what you're looking for. Stampings on the outside of the valve heads are about the best identifier to use. The other would be the IM (Intake Manifold) and whether it's a strait or curved neck. The TB is also an added identifier. There is also an extra identifier in that pulling the valve covers and checking to see if it has the KL31 or KL01 cams. KL31 cams are a little hotter, or so I've been told and both were used in the ZE. When you do get your ZE, don't forget that there are quite a few items to pull from the K8 and transfer to the ZE also.

i havent heard back about the pistons, but this is what i do know. its a curved neck IM, kl31 TB, and he has a KLDE and says its NOT the same engine, he said he sells the KLZE more often and people ask about it. But he just doesn't know about all the markings. Both engines he has are curved neck.

this is really pissing me off, waiting for them to look. in the meantime my k8 is pouring oil all over my exhaust pipes, and smoking when i drive it...

if i don't hear back today, i'm going to tell him no deal, and order a straight neck klze.

This doesn't sound straight up at all. He says he has a KLDE and knows that it's not the same as the ZE. And if he sells more ZE engines, then why is it so hard for him to identify a ZE. If you have given him specific instructions to check the pistons, you may have thrown a curve ball at him and got him all confused. Like I said before, the KL31 TB is an excellent start, just tell him to check for those head numbers. Leave the piston stuff alone. Exactly what were you looking for in distinguishing factors wrt the pistons.

Kim, perhaps posting your source site (if it's not guarded info) and then others who have had dealings with these people may be able to lend a hand.
