So you haven't floored it with your centerforce yet?

I'm having alot of slipping with my centerforce dual friction on my setup. I have the same tranny (Protege GT 95) and running at 13 psi.

I'm going to change to something stronger at the end of the month, centerforce is full of crap on a BPT (I've got 2 other friends with BPTs which had a centerforce, they both had problem with it), I wasn't aware of that when I bought it, the seller said "it will hold up 250hp bla bla" - wrong.

Mine is slipping when I shift from, for example, 3rd to 4th, or when I hold it for 3 seconds in 5th gear.

I hope you won't have much problem with it, feel free to give me your comments about the clutch at the end of the summer! :)

Nice car!

Yeah totally! I have been back and forth to the guy I got the clutch from wondering what could be wrong with it.. stuck slave cylinder? oil on the clutch?.. but now I know that the clutch just is crap. I knew it from the second I got it that it was going to be no good. They better give me a refund or something.

Sad, but true :(

I had this clutch for not even 10 000 km, I mosty used it this winter (last winter my mx will see) and I could considere it still brand new, but unfortunately, it's crap in my MX (and yours too!)

Marlon, I don't know much about mix/match in clutches. Are you saying a "clutch kit" for MX-6 would be directly compatible with our Protege GT tranny/flywheel?

Or we would need to use X disk with Y pressure plate?

(BTW, I'd prefer to have a street disk rather than a race ALA 4 puck disk, but if it's unavoidable, I'll take the race disk)

Edit : Like this clutch kit?

Sorry if I'm out of your original topic :?

i have the Heavy Duty Pressure Plate, Street/Strip Disc
that setup is good for 285 Torque
if u need more holding power get the Street/Strip Disc with a extreme pressure plate thats what corsport uses on there race cars

the mx-6 clutch will work but u have to use the Pilot Bearing and Release Bearing for a protege gt or escort gt

i've had this clutch in my car for 6 months with no problems, it grabs so hard i can chrip 4th gears with a stock bp

heres some info on the mx-6 clutch
Z62-HDSS
SKU: 83705500864

This kit includes these components:
MZ-015 - Heavy Duty Pressure Plate
MZSD056S - Performance Street Disc
Torque Capacity: 285 ft/lbs
1993 MX-3 GS V6 - Stock
2004 MazdaSpeed MX-5

So I called centerforce about the slipping. Get this... The centerforce dual friction clutch is only rated for a maximum 200 ft/lbs of torque!!! What a piece of crap.. The starting motor almost makes that much for gods sake..
That clutch is coming outta there and I am getting something better. I am thinking of an act.. mabey even a bulley.. I am gonna get one rated for 270 torque or mabey even 300.. that way it certinally wont slip. :D

Which disk do you have, street or race disk?

I think I'll take the MX-6 clutch kit. Their street disk can hold 285 lbs/torque, it should be enough.

I'll order it next week and I'll go @ mazda to buy the pilot bearing and the throw out bearing. I'll install my stainless steel clutchline at the same time of that clutch.

Thanks Marlon for the tip, I hope I won't have problem anymore with my clutch! :)

i would suggest getting the Unorthodox racing clutch, or talk to Bugs on the forum cause he got the same one but cheeper than i by the company that makes them for Unorthodox, his actually has a stronger presure plate. but its a 6 puc ceramic W/ a sprung hub. you will have absolutely no issues what so ever and will have rush hour traffic driveability. very nice clutch. way better than the ACT i had. no chatter when take off, i think the clutch is rated at lik 300 or 350, something like that. iv had no problems at 16 psi.

i heard of several KLZE's with centerforce that were slipping after a few thousand miles, its the same one everyone told me to get. i knew they were dog crap. hope you can get it all worked out.

on the lighter side your car still looks sweet as hell.
