How to change the belts

Post by CarMan1 »

ok, so im trying to change the belts on my SOHC 1.6L engine, using a manual, i untightened the 3 bolts/nuts holding on the compressor, the power steering one, since that has the pully, and thats what the manual says to untighten.. now when i do that, all i can do is pull the compressor up, which tightens the belt... hows that supposed to untighten the belt?

any help would be very appriciated, since i have a loud whine when i start up my car, and i need to see if its my altinator or belts...

one of the bolts (the head of the bolt is facing the radiator) that you have to loosen to allow the pump to swing and the belt to loosen...at least that's how it was on my DOHC.

Um all you have to do is unscrew the Bolt below the pump. There is a long adjuster screw. Then Loosen the nut on the side that holds the adjuster. The Adjust is under the PS pump itself.
