Phenolic Spacers? Ignition wires?

Post by Hoodzy »

so ya i was reading the basic mods for the V6 and phenolic spacers were mentioned seemed like a worthwhile mod to add but the links on the faq were not working so is there a new site as to where i should find info on these or how to anywhere, i tried search

also ignition wires thats what they are called right?? they would add like 1hp right?? you guys have any preference as to what aftermarket wires would be good, or if its even worth it
thanks!!

are these really worth getting in a k8? I meanitself being the k8, would this have the same effect as having an inverted style hood?

was that supposed to be a stupid question? In case it wasn't, I don't think an inverted style hood will help unless you're playing NFS:U2 and you need the style points.

From what I've heard, they're pretty useless. Despite some convincing "testemonials" on their website... I dunno, I havn't heard from a lot of people on this topic.

My 2 cents worth, the priciple is fine the execution is not...

First you have that lovely hot water being directed around the
throttle body, secondly the under hood temps on these cars is
hot REAL hot, so you are going to get heat transfer anyway....

Yes, the TB is heated by coolant which is why we include a ThermoBlok TB spacer to reduce heat transfer to the intake from the TB.

The underhood temps are high, but the manifold gains much more heat from conduction through the 220F cylinder heads than the underhood air.

I have them installed. Took me about 4 hours with replacing the valve cover gaskets. Before without them, i couldnt tough the manifold after a nice long expressway drive. After installing them, i can hold my hand right on the manifold without burning myself. I would definately recomend them. I also had my intake manifold port matched when i installed them. You may also consider bypassing the throttle body coolant lines just for ease of removal and installation and some people say it helps keep heat down.

As for the ignition wires, i'd just use the regular stock NGK. Big wires won't give you any hp.

Yeah the kit comes with a little hose connector so you can just bypass the coolant lines altogether = no "lovely hot water being directed around the throttle body"

They're really easy to install; just gotta keep track of your vacuum lines. I just installed mine last night, meaning I finally put my IM on.. almost there!

cashmoneyspeed and nallboy, are you both going to or are bypassing the the coolant line to the TB. The reason I asked is, is that that's how mine came after the ZE swap. After a lengthy search, I was informed that not having the coolant lines in the TB would give way to erratic idle issues and hot engine re-start problems. Idle issues like searching idle and high revs, most attributed to a lack of coolant lines running to the TB. I believe it has to do with water temp info in TB being sent to ecu and the resulting corrections made by the ecu to correct or compensate, ie searching idle, high idle revs etc. Have either of you tried both set-ups?

scmorgan, I posted a query on the buy and sell forum for you to clear up for me wrt phenolic spacer group buy. I need to know which of the 2 KLZE packages to order. Thanks

I haven't gotten my engine running yet. I was kinda debating on the bypass part. The manual says it would affect only vehicles in really cold climates by causing the TB to freeze over...? guess that part's not worth messing around with.
