It all depends on you. What you do to take care of it.

Its Inline 4 not V4. The reason they call it Inline 4 (4 cylinder engines) is because the engine is shapped like a l. The reason they call some 6 cylinder engines a V6 is because the engine is shaped like a V.
In other words, a V6 has 3 cylinders on one side and the other 3 on the other side. I dont think there is such thing as a V4. A Inline 4 cylinder engine has all its cylinders on one side.

Anyway, I would rather go for a V6 MX3
They offer more power and sound better.
Plus, you can spend about $600 on putting a KLDE and you will be making some real power (160hp & 160ft torque). On a 4 cylinder engine, you can do the BPT swap (185hp, forgot how much torque) for about $1400.
If you are planning to get a MX3, DO NOT, I repeast, DO NOT BUY A AUTOMATIC!
If you buy a automatic, your tranny will die soon. Go for manual. If you want automatic than you better save some money for a rebuild and a transmission cooler

Yeah but the boxter motors are horizontally opposed engines.. very efficient engines too.. sucks having to do 2 timing belts though.. (thats how my old Subaru is)

The post above is right about the auto tranny. Even if you do have a auto, you must get the tranny cooler.
If you fall, then get back up........Luck favors the prepared

you can get V4's but they arent ever seen outside of motorbikes I believe.. Ducati's use them I *THINK* don't quote me on that, I don't know nowt about bikes, their silly things, cars are much better ;)

V6's are apparantly quite reliable, despite the fact you got 2x as many moving parts and bits to go wrong and arghh they could be a nightmare, but for some reason they aint :D

4 cams, 24 valves, all for 6 pistons... crazy system!
