miata headlights
i happened to be at my local mazda dealership wandering around while they checked something and noticed the headlights on new miatas. they look similar to ours, but i didn't have a chance to directly compare or measure or anything. has anyone done this? the new ones are projectors and if they're closer to fitting our car than the civic ones perhaps it'd be worth trying. just a thought.
Re: miata headlights
I think the main objective is the price. its like 90 bucks u.s. for aftermarket projectors where it will probably be hundreds of dollars for the miata oem projectors. I agree with you though, I think the miata lights are way more pimpin than the over-sized look of the civic lights. my 2 pennies

Re: miata headlights
they're actually way harder to fit than civic lights, because of the odd shape.. someone on here did it before, and he had to either cut part of the hood, or mold the hood around it.
but it DID look pimp!

Re: miata headlights
ah, oh well, just a thought. seemed like they'd fit better but i guess my eyes are off or something. i'm sure they'd look better, as for the price, i'd probably consider spending an extra hundred if i didn't have to cut the lights up so much AND they looked better, but since it sounds like they'd still have to be worked on a lot i don't think it'd be worth it over the civic's.

Re: miata headlights
I love the head lights on my miata however since the car has a stiff suspenion, when im drving at night it looks like im flashing my brights at people because it goes from blue to normal and back and forth.
they are really nice lights in apperance though and would look good on an mx-3, but it would take some work and cost a lot

I bought the miata headlights about a year and a half ago, the car had gotten smashed and it was cheaper to get those headlights then new Mx-3 headlights.
We are still trying to find someone that is willing to do the work for a reasonable price. I have all the steps needed and pictures of what it will look like in the end.
It's one of the hardest headlight conversion and most complicated. You have to move stuff around to fit the width of the headlight as well get new parts constructed, plus cut your hood and fenders.
Not easy but i will have it done and hopefully before spring comes!
And i paid 700 Canadian for my miata headlights and one quote i got to get the conversion done was 800 and another was 500...still looking else where!

wow, that's a lot for a pair of headlights, the body work i can kind of understand if it's as extensive as you suggest. also, what kind of parts are going to have to be made? relatively small stuff that can be machined shouldn't be too bad cost wise, depending mainly on how long it would take to cut. bigger stuff is where it gets bad. anyways, i'm going with a set of civics, they should be here and ready to go in soon. i'd still love to see an mx-3 with mx-5 headlights.

the biggest thing is you have to make custom rad supports, not sure but we may have to make other custom supports for some of the parts we have to move around!
Once i get them in i will post them for sure!!
A friend of mine put the civic lights in...look awesome!
